Sims 3 Doesn't recognize graphic card (Nvidia 660m)

I recently got a new laptop. I installed the Sims3 and pets expanion pack. When I started the game there's a message says that the game doesn't recognize my graphic card. The overall town view is glitchy and in create the sims some of the background objects are glowing and flashing. Here's a clip of the look of the town http://youtu.be/JaXHeztuqfg?t=7s (I recorded with an old digital camera, sorry for the poor quality).

Here's my specs:
CPU: i7-3630 QM

VGA: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660m/2gb GDDR5

RAM: DDRIII 8GB

Also, I've seen threads with the same problems from people who are also using a PC with Nvidia 660m.

Might also be a graphic driver issue then. Sims does not yet seem to work correctly with all graphic cards on Win 8

The DeviceConFig.log doesn't look anything like on wiki. Oh well I guess it's that since other games that I play seem to work fine. My 3rd time reinstalling the Sims 3 and pet expansion pack 😕mileysad: 2 more times to go. Sigh I hope there will be a solution.

There is many CC, because I have converted many my store-purchases in packages and I have Store-fixes too. From gameplay-modding mods I have only mods from NRAAS (checking for update everyday), no camera-mod.
Uffa, I'm so much sorry to override manually files in Sims 3 program folder, but I've read, that this can be cause of my CTD while saving after building with my active family.
Edit: Today I've find courage to override GraphicsCards.sgr (GraphicRules.sgr it seemed be OK for my graphic card) and game has finally recognized my graphic card. Before graphic card not recognized by game caused CTD while saving after building with active family selected (no problems with CAW or building without active  family selected. It's only for let You know.:-)

Does this graphics card work now? Is there a solution?

  • I am having same problem, but my Nvidia GTX 670m is not showing up at all in DeviceConfig. My computer is a Toshiba Qosmio X870-BT3G23 laptop and uses 2 Video adapters with Nvidia Optimus Tech:

    - Intel HD Graphics 4000

    - Nvidia GTX 670m

Deviceconfig is only showing the Intel one, even though Nvidia Control Panel is forcing game to use the Nvidia one... What can I do to fix this?

Game Graphics settings is set to medium and fps is about 70, I should be able to run this mostly on high settings... Please help if possible and thanks  🙂

  • The GraphicsCard SGR file in Sims 3 game directory is not listing my Nvidia GTX 670m card... How can I get Sims 3 to detect and run off the Nvidia Card? Deviceconfig file is only showing my Intel HD Graphics 4000 adapter, computer uses 2 adapters with optimus tech... Please help...

  • i have the intel 4000 too but also a radeon hd 7670m! has anyone found an answer??!! I have same issue with pets expansion in town view! ☹️
