Sims 3 error code 12 help.

I am trying to resolve this ongoing issue which is so annoying. I have been playing without a problem for a a few months but now when I save Sims 3 i get an error code 12. I have read what many various people said and their solutions to save the game which does not work for me. i simply just cannot fix it as the code keeps appearing. This is so frustrating. My operating system is below. I am no computer expert and would love some help to fix this problem. Much appreciated!

Device name DESKTOP-PQ3USB9

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (3.60 GHz)

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)

Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (8 GB)

Storage 213 GB of 477 GB used

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

By the way, I hope you're not using MoveObjects to move sims around.  It's fine for regular objects (aside from potentially blocking access to those objects), but moving a sim can break routing on the whole lot.  And deleting a sim with TCE can break an entire save.

I basically just use cheats like Testingcheatsenabled true, Moveobjects on, that’s just about it…oh and of course motherlode haha. I would be willing to use what you've suggested. It would be of great help if you could suggest to me a possible safe source in which I can obtain it. I much appreciate it and your time. Thanks!

  • savvannah_007  Do you use mods, or would you be willing to add a few?  The game's own travel transition is fragile at best and breaks easily.  I would never have my sims without NRaas Traveler, along with ErrorTrap and Overwatch.  More information about the mods is here:

While we're on the subject, if you do use mods, please list them.  It's fine if you do in general, but one of them might be causing the errors.

Thank you! I will certainly try what you suggested. Just to mention, since my last message, i was successful in saving the game, however when i went to travel to Egypt (Sims Adventures) The game completely just shut down and closed out. This has also happened before when traveling. it just shuts the game down. I have tried to restart it and when I tried travelling again, it did the same and closed down. This started happening recently - the last few days. Before that i never had a problem.

  • savvannah_007  That does help: it means the game is probably not running out of RAM.  You can check just before you save, and as long as the value is under 3.4 GB, that shouldn't be the cause of the Error 12 message.  (Saving takes an extra ~300 MB, and some of the game's 4 GB capacity is soaked up by overhead.)  But Error 12 is an out of resources condition, not just RAM.

Still, make sure your system isn't using close to its overall capacity.  50% in use is fine, but over 90 would mean that temporary spike from some other source could eat up enough of the reserve to put Sims 3 in the danger zone when you try to save.

What graphics settings are you using, particularly for high-detail lots?  If it's more than 2, try turning it down during your next play session and see whether that helps.  Water is the next-most-demanding setting, and although I don't think it should be a major contributor to this particular issue, you can try turning it down to "mirrors only" as well.

If this doesn't help—RAM never reaches the danger zone and turning down the two graphics settings makes no difference—try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If that doesn't help either, try a new save in Sunset Valley, for comparison's sake.

puzzlezaddict thank you for your quick response. Below - the first picture is shortly after I loaded the saved game. The second picture is about 23 minutes after game play. I hope this helps. Thank you.

  • savvannah_007  How much memory is the game using when you first load the save (after the game clock has run for a few sim-minutes), and then after 20-30 real-time minutes of play?  You can open the Task Manager, in detailed mode, and put Sims 3 into windowed mode to check (don't minimize it or alt-tab out of fullscreen mode for this test).  Please list the value, in MB, of the game's memory use.  If you're seeing percentages instead, right-click the Memory header to switch to absolute values.
