Sims 3 freezing and crashing problem.

I like many other people am having issues with freezing and crashing. I don't want to be forced to go to windows mode to play the game, and i'm wondering what long term fix there is. My specs are 1g nividia graphics dedicated (of course), 8g ram and plenty of room on my harddrive. The only think i can possibly think of is if sims does not work well running off of the D drive, but since so many other people are having the same issue i don't think that is the reason behind this.

Make a copy of the game and try stuff with that and not the original version in case something goes bad.

Try moving without taking the furniture to see if that works. If it does, put all stuff you want to take with you in the family inventory and then move without the furniture.
