Sims 3 Game Update 1.67 not working

I've been trying to update it to 1.67 for quite some time. I have 1.63.5.024001 on a Windows 7 Professional PC. I get the error, "The setup has detected that no version of The Sims 3 is installed. I have The Sims 3, High-End Loft Stuff, Late Night, & I just installed Seasons. Some help from EA would be great. The Super Patch has given the same error.

I have the software installed to D: and will not / can not change it.

Do you have the Steam or Origin version of the game ?

    I purchased this game today and have tried downloading the update twice (10hrs of non stop fun!...not)
    
    I get a message pop up at the end of the update telling me it can't install because sims 3 is being used or something along those lines....
    
    Any help? Getting slightly frustrated!
