Sims 3 keeps crashing minutes into gameplay

I downloaded the Sims 3 and a few expansion packs after years of not playing. I do not have any custom content or mods but my game crashes suddenly around 3-10 minutes into gameplay. It keeps crashing when I try creating a sim. Since it's been so long since I've played this game I have no idea how to fix this issue, I've tried repairing the game but it did not help. For reference, I'm on a MacBook Air M1, 2020 - macOS Monterey, so I don't know if the issue is that my computer simply cannot take this game. I would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you 🙂

  • @8gg8o5k7te9w  Your Mac should be able to run Sims 3, all packs included, on high or ultra settings.  However, the Mac does need to be able to cool itself, and MacBook Air models with Apple silicon rely on passive cooling (no fan in the chassis).  So please make sure your Mac isn't overheating: play on a hard flat surface, or elevate the laptop.  Please also let me know if the underside is extremely hot to the touch.  Warm or even somewhat hot is fine.

If that's not the issue, try playing while your computer is offline.  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi before pressing Play.

@puzzlezaddict Hi! My Mac gets a bit warm but that's it. Playing on a hard flat surface and offline seem to have worked very well! The game rarely crashes, only ever doing so a good while into gameplay sometimes. Thank you!!!

Hi, I tried doing what you said, but it still didn't work. Minutes into gameplay, it just crashed

  • @xarabank  Please list the full specs of your Mac: everything under About This Mac including the OS and except for the serial number.

Please also list the packs you currently have installed and the world(s) in which you're playing.
