Sims 3 keeps crashing when traveling home from university

I've followed all these steps including re-downloading / uninstalling my game a couple times and it just wont budge! i even deleted other households / stuff downloaded from the store and it keeps crashing ☹️ thank you for all your helpful advice let me know if there are any other steps i can take

And did you add the mods I mentioned?  They're the most reliable way to try to fix this issue.

If that doesn't or didn't help, you can send me your save and I'll try to get your sims through the travel transition.  In that case, please list the expansion and stuff packs you currently have installed as well as any store worlds.  If the sims' hometown is a custom world, please list that too.  You can post a link to your save here or send it via private message.

What worked for me was using the Traveler mod, and right before it's time to go home, travel to another location (china, egypt, etc) and then from there travel home.  

Hello! I seem to be running into the same issue. My sims had gone to university before and are only like 8 credits away from earning their degree. I tried resending them to university and the loading screen popped up, two minutes passed, and the game crashed.
I tried recreating the sims 3 folder and tested everything out with no mods and it still crashes for me. Another thing I’ve noticed is that when I enter edit town and select university, the loading screen will pop up and then after two minutes it will crash. I tried using different saves as well and sending those sims to university but the game will still crash! 
I download NRASS Traveler but when sending these sims to France the same exact thing happened. 
I could really use some help if available of course. 

@EmojiHazel  Does your computer run Windows or macOS?  Not being able to travel at all is different from not being able to send sims home from a vacation or University term, and the typical causes are different too.

I had the same problem too, my 2 sim would travel back to home from university and in the midst of the loading screen my game stopped by itself. Then i decided to install the mod Nraas Traveler and it unfortunately still didn’t work, after that i installed the Nraas Error Trap Mod, fixed my game in the EA app, and restarted my MacBook and the game finally stopped crashing! (Btw i restarted and fixed my game multiple times)

what i also did was disconnect my headphone from my macbook, that could maybe be the issue as well but i am not sure.

Hey, I know this was roughly 3 years ago, however is there any chance you have any new knowledge or tips on this or can help in any way? I’m experiencing the same thing, 9pm hits and my sim automatically travels home, the load screen gets about 50% and then crashes. I have tried every step you listed multiple times and it has gotten better and loaded to about 75% but still crashes. 

It’s always been a little laggy but has always been playable and keeping the graphics low has made things smoother. Most issues have been fixed by repairing or rebooting, but this has been impossible to get past. Any new knowledge or insight you have in this or any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

This is a 2017 macbook pro running Catalina 10.15.7

I have downloaded NRaas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, and Traveler. They all are in my mods folder with Resource.cfg.

@NickBridgwater  Everything troubleshooting step I can think of is already in this thread.  The only other suggestion I have is that if you're interested, I could try to get your sims home on my Mac.  Sometimes it works for me when it doesn't for others.  If you want me to try, zip your save folder, upload it somewhere, and either post the link here or send it to me via private message.
