Sims 3 Launcher Won't Open

SimTresa​  Please uninstall Sims 3 using Revo again, and the EA App as well.  Create a new admin account on your computer, make it local (not tied to your Microsoft account or any email address), and install the EA App and Sims 3 while in that account.  Create a new folder into which you install the game.  It can be in Program Files, regular or x86, but not in Documents or on the desktop.

The Super Patch doesn't work on EA App installs—it either does nothing or breaks the install altogether.  And TS3W.exe is only used in disc and Steam installs.

I understand. So I would have to switch accounts every time I wanted to play The Sims 3? 

SimTresa​  The first question is whether this works.  If it does, then we may be able to find and address the issue on your main account.  If it doesn't, the issue isn't account-specific and we look elsewhere.

I should have mentioned before:  The name on the new account should include only letters and possibly numbers, and no special characters or accents.  Some older games don't handle these very well.

Da_Puzzleartist​  I've created the new account and redownloaded both the  app and the game. Both work in the new account.  In fact, curiously, Sims 3 actually loads a little faster than it did on my old laptop. 

SimTresa​  That's good news at least.  You can try playing in your main account now; sometimes that works once the game has been installed using a different one.  If it doesn't though, my next question is what Windows has designated as the Documents directory in your main account.  Your computer has several Documents folders, but only one per account is the directory, and Sims 3 tries to use this location too.  If it can't write to that folder, the launcher can't open.

So if the game doesn't work in the new account, search in Windows for Command Prompt, open it, and enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

This will return the location of Documents; please let me know what it says.  You can write [username] instead of your actual username if you want, but leave the rest intact.

It does work in my main account now. Though, it installed in Public/Documents rather than my actual user Documents folder.   The command came back with C:\Users\Usernamesilve\OneDrive\Desktop\Documents. I uninstalled OneDrive 2 days ago, don't know how it's still showing up anywhere.

SimTresa​  The process of uninstalling OneDrive doesn't move the Documents directory back to where it should be, which is C:\Users\your username\Documents (unless you specifically want it elsewhere).  But you can move it now.

The easy way is to right-click the Documents icon, the special one rather than just a folder, select Properties > Location, and choose the correct location.

If that fails, you can edit the registry to change the location:

You would of course change only the Personal value, unless you also want to change Desktop and Pictures, both of which OneDrive syncs by default and which may not have shifted back either.

Pictures and Desktop didn't shift back. . I've edited their locations in Properties, so they should be back to their defaults now.  Documents too.  Thanks for all your help.
