Sims 3 on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670mx

I read online where someone with this graphics card and 8 gb of RAM has a sims 3 game that is really slow and laggy. One would think that with a powerful graphics card, it would run like a dream. But I was wondering if there is a reason for this and should I be concerned? I've been wanting a computer with this graphics card. Is the game not compatible with the newer GPUs?

  • According to my reference I always use that card should run good: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements

There are many factors that can influence the game performance and maybe they had a dual graphic card system (with a chip and the card) and the game had troubles recognizing the card and was running on the chip.

If it was just one person, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The processor is also important. Get a i5 or i7 with at least 3.0 Ghz. 8 GB or RAM is plenty for the Sims 3 (since that is a 32 bit application that can't use more then 4 no matter how much you have) but with Sims 4 on the horizon, 12 GB might be better.

  • Thanks! 🙂. I'm purchasing from Origin PC later in the year, I'm originally planned on getting a 2.7 ghz processor with 3.4 ghz Turbo boost, with professional overclocking. Do you think I should by a better one? I'll stick with 8 gb of RAM for now because the next option up is to get 16...I see no reason why I should ever need that much. LOL. Plus it's more readily available and cheaper to upgrade my RAM in the future. I think I'll email Customer Service and ask what the Max capacity of ram I can get is. Thank you very much for your answer. 🙂

I think both should be fine but I'm not really that technical.

If you have the money, it's worth thinking about something faster but I would think that should be good enough. In my experience, it's usually not the processor that's holding people back if they buy a new one, it's usually the graphic card.
