Sims 3 overheating Mac and crashing

After running the Sims 3 on my Mac book pro, the who machine heats up really bad then the game crashes. I've read in quite a few of the forums about fps limiters. I haven't been able to find one and I haven't been able to find if EA has put out a fix for this issue. Someone please help, this is very aggravating and makes me not what to play anymore but I love the game.

Unfortunately, there are known solutions to most Mac crashing.  However, your computer should not be overheating from it.  Do you hear the fan running loudly or what signs are you seeing that you think it's overheating?  What kind of system are you running the game on?  Macbook Air? Macbook Pro? Also, what version operating system do you have?

Have you looked through this thread & links: Sims 3 Crashing after 30-40minutes?: Apple Support Communities

I have virtualbox and set up a windows 7 installation but I was trying to avoid having to install sims that way. The computer isn't mine but a friends and I really don't want to have to add another layer. If I have to I will. Thank you very much.

Yes, I read that link.  It basically has what I was going to say (I'll still copy/paste my usual spiel below) but without all the tips and explanation.  However, virtual box isn't great from what I understand because it acts like Parallels, which divides the system in half (half the RAM/ half the hdd) for the Windows system and the Mac system.  A lot more people prefer using Bootcamp with Windows 7 to play the game on Macs.  I refuse to do that on principle, but it's still your best bet.  Feel free to ask anything and I'll try to answer.

I'm not sure how much troubleshooting you've already tried, but here's some advice:

If you actually want to "play" the game as it's supposed to work, then get a PC or Bootcamp & Windows for your Mac. The game is not natively written for our systems (I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro). As long as EA uses Cider, a "wrapper" for the game that enables Macs to play Windows games, it's going to crash with memory issues.

Do not follow EA game advisors' advice without taking into account that many times their advice is wrong for Mac users and can harm our systems. Just use common sense when it comes to their "advice."

Here are two good posts from the Sims 3 Mac forum that have a couple of useful "band-aids" to get the game to work temporarily:

Best of luck in your battle to play the Sims 3.

edited to add: In either case, your computer should not be overheating though; mine doesn't yet still crashes which is why I'd be concerned with that.

Yes the fan is kicking on high and the bottom is amazingly hot, then the game crashes. It's a Macbook pro and it's my friends so I'm not sure I believe is Lion so osx 10.7

Well you should lower the graphics settings, disable advanced rendering, disable smoothing animation, play in windowed mode (not full screen)---all this helps, but won't fix the problem.  Also play short game sessions, spend minimal time in CAS, and the less CC, store items, EPs and SPs you have, the better/longer you'll be able to play for.  Even if you do all this, the game will still crash and the overheating will wear down the system eventually, just an fyi, but it will help the situation.  The best thing would be to play it on a Windows system.
