Sims 3 overheating my computer

I purchased the Sims 3 awhile ago but I recently buy a new computer for christmas, upon loading the Sims 3 game on my computer. It basically causes the system to overheat and crash my computer. It has happened every time i try playing it, not only is this frustrating but it causes me to lose everything i put on the game to begin with, basically i can't save anything because my computer dies before hand. I find it completely unnessary that i should have to put an extra cooling fan into my computer or buy extra components to be able to play the game on my computer. I'm not sure what to do but i can't risk having my computer blown up and the video card destroyed just from a game. I am very upset and would like a response on what to do about my issue. Thank you

Ashley

    Software, not games, not operating systems, not business production programs, none of it, is going to "Overheat" a computer.  It may cause the computer to work hard, but that is what the computer is supposed to do, and that is why it comes with heat sinks and cooling fans.  If you choose to allow those to become clogged with lint and dust, it is you who caused the overheating.

    If you ignored the System Requirements shown for a particular game and overloaded it way beyond the design parameters it was intended to handle, you are the one responsible for incrementally shortening the life of your computer over time with the overstress.

    The Sims™ 3 Minimum Hardware Requirements
    FOR WINDOWS XP

        * 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
        * 1 GB RAM
        * 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
        * The latest version of DirectX 9.0c
        * Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
        * At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

    FOR WINDOWS VISTA

        * 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
        * 1.5 GB RAM
        * 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
        * Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
        * At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

    For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:

        * Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
        * 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
        * 0.5 GB additional RAM

    Ashley,

    what you have described is a common issue that people have with the Sims 3 game. I have done research since I am one of those who have suffered from this issue as well. My computer was well beyond the requirements. I had played the game for a few days and then my computer just suddenly  shut down completely overheated.I have also played other games with higher requirements then this with very little or no issue (one game was a little laggy)

    The reason I found after researching this issue is that the game "Sims 3"  "When I finally got my Sims 3 installed and ready to go, I realized that it was pushing my ASUS GeForce GTX 580 DCUII, which is a card that runs incredibly cool, to the 70 Celsius range, with the fans at 70% speed. At first I thought it was the crazy summer heat, but I was wrong. Shocking, isn't it?

    What was the issue?  Well, this 2009 game was pushing my graphics card to render over 1,000 Frames Per Second (FPS). Logically, this exerts more strain on the GPU and thus more heat. I will explain the details of V-Sync and Overheating in my next post."

    This link does go on to explain how to fix this. If this does not work fro you I encourage you to research further. THE GAME IS THE PROBLEM! Not the computer you have. EA games has even admitted to the issue on several sites. ( included this in the second link as well as a second possible option to fixing the issue.

    I do however caution you to be careful in that continued overheated of the graphics card can fry your card and maybe even your computer's motherboard. So watch your temp while attempting to fix the issue.

  • Hi people in the forum with heating problems anno 2022. it is true that changeing to "balanced" power option, will do something for your heating while playing "the sims 3" but another fix is to limit you FPS via your Nvidia Controlpanel, you do this by going to the nvidia controlpanel -> 3D settings -> administer 3D settings -> program settings -> choose TS3.exe in the scroll down menu, find max refresh speed and set it to your monitors standard, there should also be a option to enable vsync in Nvidia controlpanel, both for programs individiualy and everything at once.

    hope this helps someone who don't want their PC breaking because of heating 🙂
