Sims 3 pc disc version serial number

Good afternoon you lovely lot, I've been able to get hold of a Sims 3 disc the year on the case says 2010, Ive seem older posts and lots were asking for the year, 

I've not installed yet and from what I've read I'll still be able to play the game but I would like to register the game so it shows up in my collection of Sims games. However the code has obviously already been used, anyway to get a new one or revoke the code for the old account, as technically, they've sold the game but will still be able to access it if? Which seems like a flaw 🤣
