Sims 3 Physical copy - transfer of ownership

So, I bought the physical copies of The Sims 3 (PC) like, a long time ago, back when it was still a whole thing, ( honestly, still should be, because it's the only Sims game where you can just follow your Sims completely around town without having to deal with the loading screen) and it also had some expansion packs as well. I played it for a long while and then I kind of stopped playing it. My cousin has never played The Sims 3, or she hadn't played it in a very long time since she was probably much younger, so I decided to gift her my copies since I don't use it anymore.

However, she said that she isn't able to use it, or is encountering an issue where it said that the code had already been redeemed because yeah, I attached it to my account. I'm trying to figure out if she needs the codes in order to play it, or if she can play without them? Or if I have to somehow make it so that the codes can work on her account? Any insight would be great.

  • AngeDeLuna  Codes can't be shared or transferred between accounts.  In fact, the codes wouldn't be freed up even if the original account were to be deactivated.  So no, there's no way you can grant digital access to your cousin without sharing your account itself, which is of course against EA's terms of service.

The oldest physical copies of the Sims 3 base game didn't, and still don't, require Origin (now EA App) to be present and managing the install process.  That changed in September 2012—newer copies do try to install Origin and won't work without the EA App's involvement.  (This only matters for the base game disc, not the others, which can be from any time.)  It sounds like your base game copy is newer, in which case it can't be installed without the EA App, which means it can't be installed without the account where the code is registered.  In that case, there's nothing you can do here.
