Sims 3 Supernatural Trouble (2 Questions)

I was really looking forward to getting the Sims 3 Supernatural (Limited Edition). I pre-ordered it on Origin, (the CD version) I got it in the mail, (the reason I'm posting this so late it because my parents didn't let me play it until I paid them back for it) installed it, and everything went fine. I then loaded the game and I noticed on the game dock it didn't show the Supernatural icon (or a non colored icon for Katy Perry's Sweet Treats or Diesel Stuff as I don't have those two yet.) It showed my game icons all the way up to Showtime and then stopped. I figured this must be a glitch and clicked play.

I waited for the EA logo to show up for about a minute, then the game exited out like it does when it finds a bug and asks you if you wish to debug it. The message that popped up said I had an unofficial game modification installed and asked me if I wanted to quit.

I quitted, but I don't know what to do. I never had any mods, I uninstalled my EA cc before I installed Sims 3 Supernatural. I reinstalled Supernatural about 20 times now (I almost have the game key code memorized) and nothing seems to be working. I updated my game and then reinstalled it again and it still didn't work. I played the game without quitting once just to see if it would play fine. The loading screen showed the Sims 3 base game and then when I select my household to play it said it didn't know if this was a official game disk or not and quit. I'm not to worried about the unofficial game disk part at the moment.

So this is question number 1: How do I get to play Supernatural.

And now for the next part. I reinstalled the base game in hopes that would fix it. Now of course I have to update it all the way to version 1.39. When I tell it I want to update, it updates half way at the most and then crashes. I decided to find the updates online to download, but when I tried to see what game version I had by telling it I didn't want to update, it crashes anyway.

Question number 2: How can I update my game?

  • What operating system are you on ?

What is your base game version right now ?

To find out, open your launcher and hover over the little base game icon in the lower left part of the launcher.

Did you ever have a mods folder in programs and/or used the Installer Helper Monkey ?

I am on a mac. The game meets all the requirments.

I can't find out my game version because I can't open my launcher. Everytime I try to it quits unexpectedly.

I have never used mods and I don't even know what Helper Mankey is.

Okey. Macs, not really know much about them 🙂

Check if you find a file called skuversion.txt and post what the first line says. Can't tell you where you would find it but it should be in the folder where the game itself is installed.

Try renaming your documents folder (you won't loose anything if you just rename) and let the game create a new one to see if this gets anywhere near working condition (aka does the launcher start again)

I couldn't find that skuversion.txt file but in the readme for the Sims 3 it said:

Readme for The Sims (tm) 3
(c)2009 Electronic Arts Inc. All Rights Reserved.
    June 2, 2009
    Version 1.0

    (That's because I reinstalled...)

And I'm not really sure what to do for that other part. I renamed my Sims 3 folder. The game still doesn't start.

Many errors can be pinpointed to corrupt user data (cc, savegames) so it's always good to check if the user data or the program data is the issue. But with renaming the folder in documents you let the game create a fresh one and if it still doesn't run, I daresay it's something else.

You can find the manual patch here: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Patching/Patch_Download_OSX but I don't know if it helps you.

I know that Macs had many issues the past few days and I'm probably the wrong person to help.

Have you tried posting in the Mac forum in the Sims 3 forum ? There's a few fellow mac players that might be able to help you or you can wait if someone else here has any idea.
