Sims 3 towns won't load

So, this is a little convoluted, but... basically, I downloaded a bunch of mods (I've done it a ton before now) and when I went to play the game, it told me one of the mods was made using a more current version of the Sims and that I should stop playing and update my game. Like an idiot, I didn't. And the game crashed. So I went back and updated my game. The game seemed to be working fine until I was waiting for a town to load. It loaded until only 1/2 inch was left of the loading bar, then just stopped. I tried it a few more times with the same results. So I went and deleted all the mods I'd installed, still no luck. I tried playing without any custom content, still no dice. Any idea what I can do to make it work again??
