Sims 3 university

Hi.

i just bought sims 3 university and have come across a bug. As soon as my sim moves to the university town, once it loads up they are no longer there and it is as though it’s making me start again by creating a new family. Iv tried going back to home town/edit town etc. reset my computer but nothing has worked. Is there any way to fix it as I have just bought it and would feel a waste to not be able to have my sim attend university.
thanks

  • @Andersonmadz  Do you use mods, or would you be willing to try a few?  If so, I'd suggest adding NRaas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, Traveler, Register, and MasterController.  You can find descriptions here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-Common-Game-Fixing-Mods-Hero-Approved/m-p/9838855#M244208

MasterController doesn't do anything unless you use it to issue a command.  The others do their work in the background, with no need for user input, although most are configurable if you want to play with the settings.  After installing the mods, delete the five cache files in your Sims 3 user folder:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompostiorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

Load the save, let the clock run for a few sim-minutes, and run an MC town reset: click City Hall and select NRaas > MasterController > Town Options > Reset Everything.  When it's done, wait a few more sim-minutes, then use "Save as" to rename the save.  Quit, delete the cache files again, reload, and send your sim to University.

This all assumes that you have a save from before the trip.  If you don't, but you only saved once, you can recover the backup save, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves.  You'll see a folder with your save name plus a .backup extension, which is from the second-to-last time you saved.  Rename the folder and delete the .backup part, so it ends in .sims3 , and the save will be available to load.

If you don't have a usable backup, then there probably isn't anything you can do to recover the save, although I can walk you through some steps that have at least some chance of working.

And if you have an intact save (or backup) but don't want to use mods, I wouldn't recommend sending your sim traveling at all.  When the trip to a new world breaks, even only some of the time, the return trip is much more likely to break and less likely to be fixable.  So the chances are that your sim wouldn't be able to return home at all.  With mods, this becomes less of a risk, although it's still a good idea to keep backups.

Regardless of all this, the pack doesn't have to be a complete waste.  There are ways to create a homeworld university, and honorary degrees, plus all the other features work wherever you want to put them.
