Sims 3 Won’t Launch – Shows as Running on Steam

Hi, I bought The Sims 3 on Steam. When I click the “Play” button, Steam shows that the game is running and the timer starts, but nothing actually opens — not even the launcher.

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas how to fix it?

If that doesn't help, try forcing the game to launch in windowed mode.  Open Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

If that doesn't help either, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

hi, thank you. I don't have any mods, and not even folder in documents - the game has never started, the launcher doesn't open, when I click play in Steam itself, nothing happens.

  • rinniex00  Please uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework 3.5, which Sims 3 uses.  Click Windows key-R, enter appwiz.cpl in the run box, select "Turn Windows features on or off," and .NET 3.5 should be near the top of the list.  Click the filled-in box next to it to uninstall, and restart your computer.  Repeat the process, clicking the now-empty box to reinstall, and restart again.

If .NET Framework 3.5 is not already installed, you can simply install it and restart.

If you get an error when trying to uninstall or reinstall it, please post a screenshot.  I can plug it into Google Translate for images if necessary.

  • This is off topic, but is the Sims 3 Steam version updated to the newest version (1.69.47)? I'm thinking about buying it if it is not

  • WaelPatron147  The Steam version is still on patch 1.67.  If you do buy it, I would highly recommend not having your Steam and EA accounts linked at the time, as that seems to prevent some players from registering the product codes Steam provides with EA and thus gaining access to the Store, or the ability to download any already-owned Store content into their Steam installs.
