Sims 3 won't launch, Service initialization failed (0x065d0274) error

I have bought SIms 3 on Steam a few days ago and i haven't been able to launch it once. I tried all the fixes I could find: renamed the Sims 3 folder, verified files, delted dlcs i didn't have in the registry editor (there weren't any to delte), reinstalled the game like 6 times, uninstalled my antivirus that wasnt working anymore, copied the sims 3 folder to desktop and probably some more that i am forgetting but nothing at all worked. Every time i try to launch the game it just gives me a black screen and shows me the windows Service initialization failed (0x065d0274) error.

I did a clean uninstall of everything again and installed the game only on the EA App, the launcher has patch level 1.69, it does launche without the task manager fix, but it gives me the error anyways. I tried repairing the files in the EA App, even after that it still gives me the same error.

  • Marshmallowycat  Please search your registry for Sims and list the results you find.  You don't need to list every single entry; just say "at this location there's one entry for the base game and one for each pack I've installed" or similar.  And I don't need Sims 4 entries, of course, just anything that looks like it belongs to Sims 3.  Some of those will only say "sims" though, hence the shorter search term.

Please don't post any values, to the right of the locations, as some of those could be considered personal information.

  • I have 2 results, both in the Sims 3 folder, under the MuiCache folder in the registry. One is TS3.exe.ApplicationCompany and the other is TS3.exe.ApplicationCompany.

  • Marshmallowycat  Those entries are fine, just Windows itself saving data about having launched the app.

I would suggest doing a repair install of Windows to address any potential issues with the registry or other hidden files.  It's a relatively quick process and shouldn't delete any of your data.  Here's how (option two):

If you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

When you're done, please install the game again through Steam, as it's less prone to error than the EA App.  Install the game into another new folder, and donwload all the packs that come with it; if you don't want to use some of them, we'll deal with that later.  Try to launch the game with no Alder Lake workaround first, and let me know whether you get the service initialization error or none at all.  If the latter, use the Task Manager workaround, again applied to TS3W.exe.

I did the repair Windows install but Sims 3 is still not launching. Nothing is happening without the task manager fix and with it it takes around 3-4 minutes for the game to start and then it just crashed with an error sound but no error message or with the error message

  • Marshmallowycat  When you say you heard an error sound, do you mean a standard Windows error sound, or some other kind of beep?  If it's not the typical Windows sound, is it coming from your speakers/headphones/etc. or from the computer itself?

Please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to launch Sims 3.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
