Sims 3 won't open (service initialization failed 0x065d0274)

Hey, i already tried LazyDuchess patch method but it didn't work for the sims 3 BUT Sims Medivial worked with the patch!

i already looked up other topics but they all did not work! (task manager method with the cpu and also powershell)

so do you have any other methods i could try? i'm sadly a german person but no german people could help me and they said i should ask here.

  • @Doctor_Kuzo  If you have one of the processors affected by the Alder Lake issue, and it sounds like you do, then yes, it's normal to need to use the Task Manager each time.  The only way to fix the problem for good is to use Lazy Duchess's patch.  The reason I didn't want you to do that yet is that sometimes the patch itself corrupts the install.  I wanted to know whether Sims 3 ran without the patch first to see whether the clean install solved the problem.

Point is, now you can run the patch if you want.  To be careful, please first close the EA App and make sure the EABackgroundService is NOT running in the Task Manager; it would be under Background processes.  If you use a third-party antivirus, disable it before running the patch, and launch the game once before reenabling it.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

  • @Doctor_Kuzo  Please clear the EA App's cache:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

and repair the game: open your App game library, select Sims 3, and click Manage > Repair.  This will undo the effect of the Lazy Duchess patch, which may or may not be contributing to the problem, as well as any other changes you've made to the game's program files.  Then try again to play, this time using the Task Manager method.

If that doesn't help, please uninstall Sims 3 and the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  If you have any saves or other user content you want to preserve, rename the Sims 3 user folder in Documents > Electronic Arts to something that doesn't include "Sims 3," so Revo won't find it.

Restart your computer, reinstall the EA App, and create a new folder where you'll install Sims 3.  The folder should be on the root level of the drive of your choice, for example C:\Games is fine, but not C:\Program Files\Games.  If you use a third-party antivirus, disable it before reinstalling the App and don't reenable it until you've tested Sims 3 once.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

@Doctor_Kuzo  Yes, Revo is safe and reliable.  I have it installed on both my Windows PCs and have been recommending it for years, with no reported problems other than the occasional user error.

@puzzlezaddict Hey, so i now tried it out and i can start and play the game!
but not normally, i do have to do that with the task manager everytime before i press the button in the launcher.

Should it be like this or should it actually be different?

    Thank you for everything btw!

@Doctor_Kuzo  Sims 3 lags at times, as you likely know already.  Whether the Smooth Patch will help depends on the source of the lag.  For example, if the cause is a series of stuck sims (human or animal), then no, it won't help.  In that case, you'd want to install NRaas Overwatch, set Stuck Check Auto-Reset to False (but leave Stuck Check on True), and keep focusing on the stuck sims when you get the notification.  You might find that the same locations are consistent sources of error, in which case you could modify them appropriately.

I would also highly recommend Overwatch, plus ErrorTrap and a few other NRaas mods, in general.  Traffic is essential in certain worlds, and Register can be depending on the world and the expansions you have installed.  For more on these mods, please see this post:

Some worlds cause a lot more lag than others as well.  If you're curious about the one you're playing in, let me know what it is.  You can also test in Sunset Valley for comparison's sake—SV has very few routing issues or other problems that cause lag, so it's a good baseline for performance.

But to answer your question directly, the Smooth Patch can definitely help somewhat, it's not a cure, and it won't hurt by itself.  However, the .package file(s) (one or two, depending on the source of the download) should not be used.  They're in a state where they don't work all the time and can cause unpredictable errors, and they don't improve performance in live mode, just loading in CAS.
