Sims 3 wont start

Hello.

My game worked fine yesterday. But now after installing some CC (like I usually do) it won't start anymore.

I reinstalled and repaired the game but nothing works. It does start the launcher but after that it loads for like 5secs with black screen and then is gone.

But when I try again it says that the game is already running. Even now without any CC/mods.

How do I fix this?

  • @RobinxxHouston  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Oh yeah. I totally forgot to delete the EA sims 3 folder in my docoments as well so now its clean. It worked fine now and even played in livemode for a bit.

I did back up my saves and CC/Mods. Is there software to detect 'broken' mods?

@RobinxxHouston  There's no reliable software that will find broken mods, just conflicts, and even that is unreliable in both directions.  (It produces false negatives and false positives.)  So you'll need to test the files manually.  As a head start though, there are two common mods that cause the game not to start in certain circumstances.  One is NRaas Cupcake if the Store bakery set is not also present and loading.  The other is the NRaas MasterController Progression add-on if the MC and StoryProgression base modules are not both present.

Other than that, you'll need to test everything.  Use the 50/50 method if you have a lot of files to go through.
