Sims 3 Xbox 360 won't work...

My daughter recently got sims 3 on Xbox 360 for her birthday. She can create a family at the beginning but when she has finished and goes on to play the game it never loads and never has done before, this is the second copy of the game she has had as the first did exactly the same, I'm beginning to think the game wasn't faulty? Is this a common problem and if so what can be done to fix it? Or is the game faulty? Help needed please and would be much appreciated.
