To be precise; hitting play through origin does nothing. Selecting the desktop shortcut icon brings this error message:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Sims3Launcher.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
Make sure the following program are up-to-date
- Origin
- Java
- Flash Player
- Adobe Air
- Windows
Did you try starting the game as administrator to see if that works or running it in XP mode ?
I didn't try running it under XP, thing is, it was running fine before I had to revert the entire system. I did get all updated, and after uninstalling clealy this time, the game worked after reinstall!! I was even loading my store content in-game, but I had to get to sleep, it was midnight by the time it started to work.
Now this morning, same issue. My pc even went to blue screen while attempting my first game start-up ☹️
I admit to being near to giving up on it all, I'm going to try it out on my daughters computer, confirm it's not some update issue or something. UGH. I'm at the end of what to do. I'm going to try to reinstall again if need be, though honestly... that wont necessarily stop it from happening again, since NOTHING but shutting down happened last night.
You can right click on the short-cut and you should have the option to start it in XP mode (compatibility tab).
BSOD (blue screen of death) are usually hardware related though.
Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

I've already started my last resort, clean uninstall of all things ea, sims, origin. I'm currently reinstalling. I'm not sure why it would help, but at this point... ugh. I spose my next last resort will be to attempt play in XP lol, I had it running before for a couple months though, before the bsod that is, I can't figure why it would change unless it had something to do with the game, which seems very unlikely to me.
I tried installing the windows debug program, wouldn't complete the install... had an error. I'm not sure if that's me or windows site but... I'm so lost. My kid's pc runs all updates and content just fine. It's GOT to be my pc. My husband and I are the only ones that use it. I have to seperate info into more than one post due to excessive characters.
