is true that I only installed the base game now
I don't have any other expansion pack except university, but it just don't let me install it -_-
I tried uninstall the game, not working. tried uninstall the whole origin, still not working...
I guess I can only play it this way then

Did you try to uninstall and just patch to 1.50 instead of 1.55 ? You should be able to install Uni with 1.50.
I have not seen anyone else with this issue.
Did you try looking around in some chinese forums if people have a similar issue ?
I actually found people who have the same issue as mine in some Chinese forum, though their games are pirate version and the help there don't work-_-
Anyway, I contacted EA official advisor for several times and finally SOLVED! (not completely solved, anyway)
I decided to write down here in case someone has the same problem
The problem I believe is because I didn't delete everything in my old computer. So I used method here : https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3 to uninstall both my old and new computer sims3. Then I install the base game and it automatically help me to patch it to 1.42 (maybe because my computer is win8, I heard that it has to be at least 1.42 to play in win8). Then it said there are new updates but I didn't update it.
Then I put my University Life in DVD rom and start installing it. It will pops out and said it requires an update for game to install. I used the auto-update to 1.50 by the disk. I was so happy to see it asked me to fill in registry key!! Everything went well and the game was installed. In the launcher, it said the version is 18.xxxxx , don't remember it correctly.
PROBLEM again. It is 1.50 now and I tried to update it to 1.55, still everything went well until the old problem again. After updating, the version shown on launcher became 1.42 again 😕mileysurprised: So i immediately go inside the game and check, yeah everything there!! University LIfe is safely installed and all new features are there. So I decided to let it just remains this way.
