I just want to say EA Origin Live Chat help is .... the worst experience I've ever had. The man actually had me uninstall the intel onboard card, then acted like he didn't know what to say when I poked around and saw the whole system was then running on a Microsoft chip and lagged not only the game but the whole system. The game looks better on my sons computer (which is 10 years old) than it did on this brand new laptop!!! My husband and I saw that and were surprised it even loaded. I asked the guy if it's normal for the NVidia control panel to be unavailable also after following his instructions. :x He said to restart and it would be back. So I closed the chat and restarted. Nope, no such luck. :evil:
So not only was the guy not helpful, he actually kinda jacked up my whole system. I factory reset the laptop, and installed the windows updates and video drivers. Then instead of going to origin for help I went to NVidia. They were much much more helpful. I still don't know if the game will run without crashing, as I'm still downloading the base game as we speak. But apparently you need this Geforce Experience program that you run to make the game use the NVidia card. You would assume something like that would be included in the factory setup, now wouldn't you? The factory setup included the apps with weather and time and even news in various other countries and social networking crap but not the very program that makes the NVidia card work. :shock:
I'm wondering if I'll still have to trouble shoot the game and run it in an older version of windows. I will do DEP after I install the base game and update it, then use the Geforce Experience program to set up the game to run with Nvidia. I'm not even going to waste my time on the eps and sps until I get the darn game to work with the NVidia card.
ETA: This is the problem I was having that made me want to contact EA/Origin Help to begin with. I am not comfortable editing the games files like that. I'm just not that tech savvy.
ETA: My husband wants to strangle me. After the price of the laptop, university and Aurora skies (and monte vista for our son) he is livid that the game isn't working well. I am hopeful though. I just peeked inside the origin games/the sims 3/game/bin/graphicsrules and saw this
if (match("${cardVendor}", "NVIDIA"))
I don't see anything in there about the intel 4000 card. Oh, please read the right card this time!
