I myself am a major computer expert. I probably know more about computers than half the people who work at EA. (Possibly more than all but Will Write and Don Hopkins. I'm a big fan of both of them BTW.)
I apologize if some of the things I say go right over people's heads. I'm not exactly the most social person on earth, and some computer concepts really can't be explained in simple terms anyways.
My computer runs Linux 100% of the time. It generally is more reliable than Windows, and it gives me far more control. (For instance, I can set my disk cache to only write to disk every 30 seconds, so the Sims 3's perpetual disk writing doesn't slow the system at all. This way it also writes a full buffer every time.) I have an old copy of Windows XP Professional, but I haven't had it installed in ages.
I am one of four advocates for Sims 3 on Crossover for Linux. (I pretty much make sure it runs on every Beta, and report any improvement/increased trouble with it.) Last I checked there were still issues with the DVD copy protection, and Origin is a complete failure right now due to the Origin client using a screwy SHTTP stack that won't download large files on Wine. However, the good news is Steam version works perfectly, and has worked perfectly for over a year now.
As a note, anyone is welcome to send me a friend request here or on Steam (or on any of the other Sims 3 forums that I periodically drop by.)
