The Game won't launch

After clicking play in the launcher all I get is a black screen before it closes and spits out a xcpt file in my The Sims 3 folder. I have tried every single solution that I could find online and have taken out every single mod/CC/lot/save and reshade and I still can't get the game to launch. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled it twice and still nothing. The game worked fine 2 days ago and I have a really nice brand new gaming laptop. I don't know if it's something wrong with my laptop or if it's the fault of EA App. I would hate to have wasted my money on a game that I can't even play

  • LiaKnow  Downloads shouldn't be considered a system folder, and neither should Documents or the desktop.  It's very strange that you're seeing this error with the driver installer in any of these locations.

Are you trying to run the installer.exe inside the extracted folder?  I just want to make sure.

If that's not the issue, to force-install the driver, click Windows key-X, select the Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click the Intel graphics chip, choose Update Driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick > Have disk, choose the extracted driver, and select the Graphics folder, at which point the Device Manager should suggest an .inf file.  If it doesn't do so automatically, you're looking for iigd_dch.inf.  Select the file and let the Device Manager install it, then restart your computer when it's done.

  • LiaKnow  You're not taking any more of my time than I want to spend, really.  I do this because I enjoy it.

My next suggestion would be to create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  You'll be able to launch the game without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other content won't be available, and you'll need to edit Options.ini again (if the game doesn't work the first time) to reimpose windowed mode.

Double-check that the Nvidia GPU is still selected in the Control Panel in the new account, and for now, make it global, at least while you're trying to play Sims 3.  Restart your computer after imposing the setting if it's not already selected.

If that doesn't help, try playing in a clean boot, still in the new account:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.

If it doesn't help, please post the Reliability Monitor error associated with the crash in the clean boot.

If you decide to reinstall Windows, that's fine, and understandable; this is your time, after all.  (It doesn't take me that long to write a post.)  At this point, it might be faster to reinstall Windows and your various apps than to find the cause of the issue.  But it really is up to you, and I'll keep trying, and go get a second opinion if and when I'm out of ideas, as long as you're still interested.

  • LiaKnow  Alright, since this is probably still due to the Intel graphics chip and/or driver, and it's stubbornly insisting on being part of the process, let's try installing a newer driver.  The one you have should be fine, but apparently not, and Acer offers a newer version for your laptop:

    https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/Nitro_ANV15-51

Scroll down to the VGA section and download the first entry, with a version number ending in 6129.  Extract the .zip, and run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

puzzlezaddict  When I try to intall it I get a message that the program is in an unauthorized place and I need to move it to a non-sytem folder, but even after moving it to a personal folder like pictures or documents I still get the same error message, even after restarting my laptop

  • LiaKnow  Please put it back in Downloads and see whether it runs (still run it as an admin).  And if that doesn't help, please post a screenshot of the error.

If your current Windows account doesn't have admin permissions, use the admin account instead, or create a new one.

There's also a way to force-install the driver if you want.  It's a bit complicated but safe as long as the driver itself is compatible with your system, which this one definitely is since it comes directly from Acer.  Let me know if you need it.

puzzlezaddictI might need to force install it as it's still not working (this **bleep** laptop is driving me insane)

The direct translation of the error messege is is:

    The application can't be started

The program is in an unauthorized place. Move to a non-system folder
