The Sims 3 Island Paradise Mermaid Tail Customization

I converted my sim into a mermaid using the lifetime reward "mermadic kelp" the scales on my sim wont show and when I let my sim go into the ocean the mermaid tail appears and is pretty fine. I just didnt like the color of the scales. I went to change scale color interaction by pressing the mirror and I got into CAS. There was an option saying color. I clicked that and nothing would show up it would just stay the same screen and everytime I pressed it.
