The Sims 3 keeps giving a serious error message

Hi everyone,

The Sims 3 keeps showing a serious error message:

A serious error has occurred while loading “Sunset Valley.world”. It is strongly recommended that you restart the application.

This happens with every world when I try to start a new game.

I’ve already turned off OneDrive, installed the game on my desktop, and reinstalled The Sims 3 countless times. It doens't matter if i start the game from te EA app or with the sims 3 launcher.

I don't use any mods or cheats, I just installed the game on a windows 11 laptop.

At this point, I don’t know what else to try.

Does anyone know a solution?

Grt.-Bibi

  • Bibi_Eindhoven  When you say you turned off OneDrive, how did you do so?  Or rather, did you move the Documents directory out of the OneDrive folder?  To see the full location of a file or folder, you can right-click it and select Properties > General, then look at the Location.

Please check your Sims 3 folder, if you already know where it is.  If not, check both these locations:

    C:\Users\your username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
    C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Let me know which folder is current (or which one exists, if there's only one).  The date on DeviceConfig.log should exactly match the last time you opened the game.  If it doesn't, the folder it's in is no longer being used, and there will be a newer one somewhere else.

I had paused OneDrive synchronization for 24 hours.
I installed The Sims 3 on my desktop C:\Users\dings\Desktop.
OneDrive does not synchronize my desktop.

I also play the sims 4 and is game works fine with OneDrive

  • Bibi_Eindhoven  I wasn't asking where you installed the game, I was asking where the user folder is.  This would be the folder that contains subfolders like Saves, Library, etc.

Sims 4 is not the same as Sims 3, so saying it works fine with OneDrive isn't relevant here.  This issue for Sims 3 has almost exclusively been linked to OneDrive for over a year.
