The Sims 3 Launcher Won't Launch

Since the Jan 13, 2025 update to 1.69.47.024017, I have not been able to get the launcher to open. My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 folder is completely empty now, so no mods or old data should be getting in the way. The "Launching Game..." pop up for a second, then the whole EA app window blinks like it's minimizing itself, then reopens. I've tried various things in no particular order and multiple times:

  • Repairing The Sims 3
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling The Sims 3 (have done this with the Revo following instructions here)
  • Repairing the EA app
  • Restarting the EA app
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the EA app
  • Restarting my computer
  • Emptying out my Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 folder, uninstalling and reinstalling the game again (it's still empty)
  • Resetting my password on the EA app in case of an account issue
    • I am able to start other games from the EA app, just not The Sims 3
  • Downloaded and tried to install an older version of DirectX even though I really didn't think it would work (it didn't)

My PC:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor 3.00 GHz
  • RAM: 32GB
  • System: 64-bit
  • GPU: NVIDEA GeForce GTX 1080
  • AvivaYalla  Please uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework 3.5.  Click Windows key-R, enter appwiz.cpl , click "Turn Windows features on or off," and you'll see .NET 3.5 near the top of the list.  Click the filled-in box to uninstall, and restart your computer.  Repeat the process, clicking the now-empty box to reinstall, and restart again.

  • Nursey318  What happens when you try to install your Store content?  If you get an error, please provide a screenshot.  And let me know whether the launcher is still blank after clearing Edge's IE-mode data.

If clearing IE-mode data doesn't help, is this an original Windows 11 install, or did you upgrade from Windows 10?  Did the launcher ever work on this computer?

  • praisethebastii  What exactly did you try, and what happens when you try to play?  Please post a screenshot of the error, if you get one, or write out its text.  And let me know whether the launcher opens at all, and if so, what it looks like.

  • Hello! I am having similar issues with a resent update to Windows 11 and EA app. My launcher works, but my purchased Sims 3 store content will not appear in-game. I was able to fix my blank launcher screen by resetting my password with EA. Now I can download Store items into my launcher, install, and they appear in the "Installed Content" tab of the launcher. However, when I run the game, no Store content is there. All my Expansion Packs and Stuff packs are present however. In my troubleshooting, I did uninstall/reinstall the game, and the game files are in Disc C/Program(86x)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 2025. My "installed" store content is not downloading here. It is downloading to Disc C/Users/Noelle/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads. This is an old file with my saved games etc. The new reinstalled 2025 file for the game does not have any "Downloads" folder in it. Thoughts?

Also when I play the game, and exit again, the content now shows as "not installed" in the game but is still in the downloads section of the launcher.

puzzlezaddict THANK YOU! The link you shared helped me fix it! I renamed my Sims 3 folder so it would spawn a new one and that seems to have fixed everything! Now I can work on re-downloading store content and moving saved folders. THANK YOU <3
This game is truly one of a kind, it's infinitely better than any other Sims game, and I don't know what I will do when it stops working with modern machines. Thank you thank you thank you <3
