The Sims 3; There Was An Error During Startup

Here's my problem:

Every single time, I try to open my ts3 launcher, I see this message: "There was an error during startup. Please see the Log for more details."

This issue seemingly came out of nowhere, I haven't recently installed any mods/downloads, or messed with any of my game files. I have tried many solutions, such as repairing my game, uninstalling, and reinstalling but it still shows the error. Anyways, below I've attached my DxDiag. Please let me know if anyone knows a fix for this!

Thanks In Advance!

@cloudygreyskies  Okay, please uninstall Sims 3 using Revo Uninstaller, which is more thorough than a simple uninstall.  If you're using Origin, uninstall and reinstall it as well.  I don't have instructions for the EA Desktop App, but Revo should be able to remove all corresponding files.

    • If you want to preserve your saves, rename the Sims 3 user folder that was originally in Documents > Electronic Arts to something that doesn't include the words "Sims 3."
    • Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) from here.
    • Launch Revo, select Sims 3 from the list, and click Uninstall.
    • Once the game is uninstalled, select "Moderate" under "scanning modes," and click Scan.
    • Review the list, in case there's something you want to save; otherwise, click Select All, and then Delete.
    • Close Revo, and restart your computer.

    Next, uninstall Origin:

    • Quit Origin if it's still open, then right-click on the Task Bar and open the Task Manager.  Scroll through looking for Origin entries.  If you find any, click on them and End Task.
    • Next, clear Origin's cache.
    • Launch Revo again and uninstall Origin, and when it's uninstalled, select "Moderate" again and Scan.
    • If Revo finds any remaining registry entries, select all, delete, and click Next.
    • Revo will display "Remaining Data and Folders.  Select all of them except for the "Origin Games" folder, if it appears.  (This is where other Origin games are installed by default.)  Delete the rest.
    • Close Revo, and restart your computer.

If you're still using Origin, you can download it from here:

The EA App is easy to find.  Be sure to run both the installer and whichever app you use as an admin: right-click on each and select "Run as Administrator."

When reinstalling Sims 3, please create a new folder on the drive if your choice, for example C:\Games, and install the game into that.  I would suggest using your new Windows account to install.  Although it's probably not necessary, it's easy enough, and you've already created the account.

  • @cloudygreyskies  Your dxdiag is full of Chrome crashes, so much so that they're crowding out any other errors.  I have no idea what's going on there, but it's worth mentioning, and you might want to reinstall Chrome.

For the game itself, did you ever remove or rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts?  If so, please do so now.  The game will create a new folder if it launches at all, with no content, which is the point: to see whether your existing content is causing the error.

If this doesn't help, or you already tried it, please create a new admin Windows account and try launching Sims 3 there.  Make it a local account, as in, don't sign into Microsoft, and don't sync with any other services you normally use.  You'll be able to sign into the EA App or Origin and won't need to reinstall Sims 3, but your saves and other user content won't be available.  That can be addressed later; for now, please just let me know whether the game works in the new account.

  • @puzzlezaddict After creating the new local account when starting the game, the launcher still has the message, with my The Sims 3 folder only having a "launchermanifest.pid" file.
