The Sims 3 University - Marriage issues
I recently decided to revisit some of my favourite Sims 3 expansions, and was doing a play through of University, and I've stumbled upon a glitch I can't get my head around and it seems slightly different to other posts I've seen so thought I'd create my own for hopefully some help! 🤞
Little long-winded, but bare with me! My sim went to Uni and it was split into 3 separate enrolments to complete her degree, on her second enrolment she got a boyfriend, and then left Uni by herself. When I went back for the third time, I decided to go for a rental property for the final term rather than a dorm as the amount of mess and classing stereos was driving me insane aha! When I selected the only rental lot that was available, I noticed that it had both my sim and her boyfriend from the previous enrolment, and when I clicked play and loaded into the lot it showed them as both selectable sims in the household, so I now had control of him too. Then when my sim graduated and went back home, he automatically came with her and was then also a sim in my household.
I thought great, that's one step I don't have to initiate myself as the boyfriend was a grumpy loner and thought that was going to be an obstacle to move in aha, however there is now no option for propose marriage from either sims perspective. They show up as each others boyfriend/girlfriend, have full relationship and I get it to the point that they are both extremely irresistible but the option just isn't there. Also weirdly at home whenever I click on the bed for either of them to sleep it always says sleep in *other sims name* bed, not sure if this is related to the glitch or always showed up as this even with sims in a relationship/married, it's been a long time since I played!
Has anyone else had this issue or potentially know a fix? I have no mods or cc installed, and I am happy to download MasterController if this is something that could fix this issue. My jock girl is just desperate to tie down her rebel loner artsy boyfriend and I'm just trying to help a gal out aha.
Apologies for the long post if anyone reads this, and appreciation to anyone who does get back to me! 🙂
@letitlego If you don't use mods, try evicting the boyfriend, in Edit Town, and placing him elsewhere in the world. You can choose a blank lot since he won't be there for long. Use "save as" to rename the save, so the original remains intact as a backup, then quit to desktop. Delete the five cache files in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. For reference, they are:
- CASPartCache.package
- compositorCache.package
- scriptCache.package
- simCompositorCache.package
- socialCache.package
Reload the save and either ask the sim to move in with yours or merge the households via Edit Town.
If you do use mods or are willing to add a few, at least for troubleshooting purposes, you'll want NRaas ErrorTrap, Overwatch, MasterController, and (possibly) DebugEnabler. All are described and linked here:
You can try using DebugEnabler first: click the sim and select NRaas > DE > Options: Smartphone > Sim > Fix Homeworld. Then see whether the options are available. If not, try a MasterController reset, under NRaas > MC > Sim > Advanced. I'd suggest saving/quitting/deleting the cache files/reloading afterwards and before trying any new romantic interactions.
