Trying to run Sims 3 just opens EA Desktop

So recently I re-installed Sims 3 (just the base game), since I don't have my physical games with me I installed it through origin. In the past I could run it without have origin open by going to the game folder and running either the Launcher or the Game itself. Problem is that every time I try that the only thing that runs is EA Desktop that doesn't support Sims 3. I just want to play the game I payed for so long ago without having Origin in the background eating resources.

    @Caniteona  Until patch 1.69, released in November 2015, even Origin installs of Sims 3 could be launched from a shortcut without having Origin open.  That's no longer the case, and there's no way to even open the launcher without Origin or the EA Desktop App open.  It sounds like you can play through Origin just fine, but if you want to use the Desktop App for whatever reason, try opening the app first, then launching the game from the shortcut.

    @Caniteona Digital downloads of The Sims 3 will always require a login into either Origin or EA Desktop. The latter does support The Sims 3, I've just checked and I see the game in my library.
    However, I wasn't able to run it using The Sims 3 shortcut. I had to click on the Play button, inside my game library, and only then the launcher opened.

    @mate54Thank you for your reply. Hmm okay, maybe what I had before was Disc installation but connected to my account online.  As for EA Desktop supporting Sims 3 see the attached files. It simply doesn't show up. I'll try a few more things but you pretty much answered my question.

    @puzzlezaddictEven with the EA Desktop App open Sims 3 will not open. Thank you so much for your answer, especially for qualifying that in the past (even if a long time ago) the game could be open without Origin, at least now I know I'm not insane (At least not totally). I'll use Origin for it until they actually fix it (probably never). <3
