When I click "Start Playing Household" the game stops

This occured after installing University Life, when I go to put a family in a household nothing loads. I am still able to select other houses but I can't actually play with my sim, the 'Start Playing Household' button goes grey and that's about it. It sucks seeing as I got University Life for Christmas I have only been able to play it once.
