When I try to open my sims 3 launcher, it freezes up and will not do anything.

When I click to open my sims game, the launcher starts to open, but it just loads two blue boxes and freezes up. Once it freezes it is impossible to make it do anything at all. I have restarted the computer and tried several times to open the launcher. Before it stopped working at all, it would randomly stop working after completely loading and every button would be replaced with an unclickable red "X". Has this happened before? Is there any way to fix it? Please help!! I really want to play and finish installing some stuff that I downloaded, but it won't load...
