Why can't I hear my custom music

have you placed a radio or stero in your sims house ? click the radio- option -change station to custom

I read somewhere that custom music does not play properly if the mp3 file has the album cover embedded. Is that the case for you ?

tried most things and have given up now! Maybe the store could add a new option - download music for game. Just a suggestion.

by any chance do you have the late night game and deleted the custom music that came with it

yes I have the late night game but did delete the custom music that came with it when I tried to add my own music.

that might be the problem then...let me check around  to see what to do about that
