Why can't my dog "guard the home"?

My family consists of a young adult female, named Emma, and a Yorkshire Terrier named Lola (small breed). They both live in a penthouse. Lola has the wish to "guard the home," but there is no option ...

    ok i made a sim and two dogs one a Yorkshire Lilly and a slightly bigger dog Sally in the apartment they can guard objects and lol lock the door but not guard the apartment Lilly also had the wish to guard the home I moved the sim and pets to a house the sim was able to command Lilly to guard the home...wish fulfilled

hmm give me about an hour and i'll start a new game  with the same type pet and see what needs to be done or if  the same happens to me

      welcomes 🙂  at least we both know now pets can't guard apartments which may help others too, thank you

        I play on xbox 360 and my dogs dont have the option to guard home. they have the loyal or aggressive trait and are all best friends with my sim. do they have to learn all their tricks first?
