Why does my product code expire after one initial use?

After I initially installed this game, "The Sims 3 starter pack" and went through the lengthy and personally "Useless" registration through origin, I couldn't access the game. Instead I had to re-register with origin but then was still unable to access the game because origin said that the product code was already used. I spent a considerable amount on this product and would appreciate any help.
