[ARCHIVED] Whisked away children can not be played

Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.110.265.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Every single pack is installed up to and including Love Struck.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Make sure a child is whisked away. 2. Add the child to a household. 3. Play household and you will see the child can not be selected.
What happens when the bug occurs? You can not play as a child re-added to a new household after being whisked away.
What do you expect to see? I expect that you should be able to play as the sim once re-added to a household of your choice.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. It's a new feature with 1.110.265.1030

There is no way you can play the child after you re-added them to a family.

The kid doesn't even appear when attempting to travel somewhere.

As a side note: I did test with MCCC and UI Cheats before doing a vanilla.
I then tested to remove her from family with cheat and then readd her getting the following exception.
Error message: Exception in Unknown timeline: Exception running Element (AttributeError: 'HiddenSimService' object has no attribute 'unhide'), CategoryID: household_manager:294

Seems like the kid is considered a Hidden Sim unless Im misinterpreting that exception.

Did anyone ever find a solve for this? I’m having the same issue in my game and I play on Xbox so I can’t use mods to change anything.

@crinrict It seems like you tried to off the parents since the kid is sad btw.
That scenario did work and always worked for me.
Its the scenario of when you can't take care of your kids properly, the kid almost starving and gets whisked away that is the issue.
After child services takes the kid away, I merge the kid with a new family Its after that you can not control the kid.

The issue seems to still be there with Life & Death.
I think its some kind of flag that gets added to kids that get taken from their still alive parents that gets wonky.

I tested this with L&D installed and it works fine with the pack. (Thanks to EA for letting me test the pack)

So it seems a patch issue and you should be able to place them manually.

I tested this with a will though but I don't see any reasons why it shouldn't work if you don't have one.

Are you transferring them into a household or adopting them the normal way? It could be buggy just merging kids into a household and not actually adopting them.

1.110.265.1030 PC (patch one week before Life and Death)
All packs released until this version
No Mods. New save.
Tried two scenarios:
1. Toddler, sole parent dies. Household is no more. Toddler household is in Played households ready to be moved in.
2. Child. Is neglected and taken away. Parent household still exists.
In case ( 1 ) I could move the Toddler to a new household and have him actually appear controllable.
In case ( 2 ) I tried various scenarios and couldn't get the child to appear as an active member of a household:
- merged the child household into an active household with an adult sim and had the adult "Adopt" (interaction) the child. Child appear in the household bar but inactive
- marked the child household as "Played" (heart icon) before merging. Same result.
- had the child be invited for a stayover at the former parent house, wait for them to show up then switched household to the adoptive parents to bring the child back. Same result.
- marked the households as Played/Unplayed to see if it clears any flags. Same result.
- moved the child back to their former household (no longer related). Child showed up as a member but still inactive. Moved them back to their adoptive household. Still inactive.
- Deleted the original household (not the adoptive one). Same result.
- Entered CAS and have her a nice hot dog costume. Still inactive (but in hot dog costume).
- Made sure to "Welcome the child to the household" (paraphrasing). Waited for two days. Had the child attend school and return. Same result: chiled appears inactive in the sims households bar but is present on the lot.
The adoptive parent can interact with the child on the home lot, but they can't travel together or take a vacation together.

This happened to me as well. No matter what I did, the kids were forever stuck "at daycare" and probably would be forever. Moving, evicting, traveling, nothing worked. When they got taken away from my household, they ended up as homeless and I moved them in with their father who lived across town. They were bugged in his household and bugged when I moved them all into my own household. I tried everything I could think of to make them playable again and was almost ready to give up on this save.
My workaround was to make copies of the toddlers, delete them and replace them with the copies and use MCCC to reconnect them to their parents. So maybe this workaround is an option for the time being.
