the bug i'm referring to, after the cooldown it says ready, but you can't harvest.
what you describe is theory, but i'ts not working that way.

i harvest the insect farm once, after that i can't harvest it ever again.
i can't remember at what point i composted/feed them again, or how often, or how often i petted them to increase health.
i have tried some variations ( i think i even cleared them out and started new, i think that didn't work as well). it never worked more than once. so i gave up. i buy three and use each once (to complete the aspiration f.e.) then i sell them.
And buy new ones if i ever want to get harvestables again.. (for finishing the aspiration of another sim f.e.)
it's just another gameplayfeature I bought, which is not there.
