M Gen Pt 2-The Musical Mermaid
I decided to add U back to the list of generations, so this is now a 24-generation challenge. Before, letter U was just a handful of side quests with no main plot. The Undertaker career gives it just enough game play to justify it's own generation. Back to the play test; Melody still has a lot on her plate:
- Teen+ Skills- Media Production
- Teen+ Aspirations- Musical Genius, Master Maker
- Collections- Metals, MySim trophies, Magical artifacts,
- Other Gameplay- Participate in a Mud fight. Watch movies. Own a Massage chair and a Make-Up chair. After all other objectives are complete, die of Mortification, Meteorite, Murphy Bed, Murder of Crows or be eaten by the Mother Plant.
Nagami has the following objectives that she can work on in her early years:
- Final Traits- Non-committal, Neat
- Likes- Nectar making, New Age music, NuDisco
- Dislikes- Media Production, Mischief, Mixology, Metal music, Mid-Century, Mission, Modern decor
- Teen+ Skills-Nectar making
- Teen+ Aspirations-Expert Nectar-Maker, Nerd Brain, Neighborhood Confidante
- Aspiration Rewards-Night Owl, Never Weary
Melody sets up a beauty room in the new house with a Make Up Chair and a Massage Chair. Her new neighbor Lily (yes, the parallel-universe alternate of her 7 greats-grandmother, that Lily) is delighted to receive a free manicure.
Now that she no longer lives in Mua Pelam, working as a Marine Biologist is not nearly as convenient. Melody has advanced her fabrication skills enough to quit and become a freelance crafter. She has a studio in the basement for music and candle-making. She starts practicing her violin and soon has enough skill that she can post violin videos online. She hopes to become a Musical Genius.
Once Nagami is old enough for movie nights, Melody invites Jordan and Makoto over for some family bonding while watching Adventures in Space Simulation. Nagami’s familiar Nessa comes too. While Nagami and Jordan are completely engrossed in the movie, Melody and Makoto are more interested in catching up. Devin couldn’t participate because she works the evening shift at a restaurant. Melody spends some fun time with her too later on when they have a Mud fight during a heavy rain.
Watching the space simulation movie inspired Nagami with an interest in space and technology. She expands her mental skills to complete the whiz kid aspiration. This gives her enough aspiration points to purchase the Night Owl trait, which helps her build her logic skill even faster when using the telescope at night. One thing she doesn’t like is her mother’s love of Mischief and Metal music. Nagami prefers New Age and NuDisco.
When Nagami ages up to teen she gets the Neat trait. Unfortunately, tidying up isn’t enough to reconcile her to Melody’s Mid-Century Modern Mission aesthetic, which she hates. Since Modern Mission is characterized by simple design and Northern European influence, Nagami redecorates her bedroom in a sort of global bazaar aesthetic, with ornate decorations from around the world.
When Melody finishes a sky lily candle for one of her crafter gigs, it completes the Master Maker aspiration. She can now fabricate items at a reduced cost. She also masters the Media Production skill and one of her videos is nominated for an award. Nagami tries out Media Production to see what it’s about, but she decides editing is too tedious.
Nagami has retained her passion for space and technology. When Devin and Melody take Nagami to Magic HQ, reading magic tomes helps her complete level one of the Nerd Brain aspiration.
Nagami makes friends with a classmate named Izumi who lives on a nectary in Rider’s Glen. She invites Nagami to give the Nectar-making apparatus a try, and Nagami makes her first bottle of apple nectar. She’s thrilled and she hopes she can explore Nectar-Making as an adult, although she doesn’t share her parents love of Mixology.
Mentoring Nagami’s little brother Nick in violin helps Melody finally complete the Musical Genius aspiration. Now she can completely focus on her collections. When upgrading her rocket ship with a wormhole generator, Nagami completes the last requirement of the Nerd Brain aspiration. From now on, she has the Handy trait, which helps her repair and upgrade appliances more quickly. The wormhole generator also allows Melody to travel to planet Sixam to collect the Sixam metals.
Nagami ages up to young adult, but Melody still isn’t finished with her last three collections. Because Nagami has the Non-committal trait now, she doesn’t want to tie herself down to a formal career. Instead, she works for herself designing furniture at her wood-working station, on her own schedule. Melody has taken double kelp and asked Simeon Silversweater to turn her into a spellcaster so that she can duel for Magical Artifacts. She completes the collection that way, and gives the final piece of the collection, the Wand of Elementals, to Nagami. She knows Nagami will use it responsibly.
Melody completes the metal collection by finding literalite in the Forgotten Grotto, and MySim Jenny in Desert Bloom. She gives the two items pride of place in the living room. She doesn’t get much time to enjoy her achievement. While observing the sky with the telescope a day or two later, she is struck by a meteor and dies.
