How much Online Multiplayer is enough?

Ok. So let's suppose there's a The Sims game that also has offline singleplayer game option and content sharing.

So let's say this The Sims game is also getting Online Multiplayer option. How should it look like?

I've put forward four options how it could look like along with all of them and none.
Here's the description of all of them.

Option 1: Each player has a sim. Each player creates a sim to represent them who will have no free will. Player can only change their sim, but can't have multiple sims. If you something in chat, it will appear for some time in the bubble above the sim. Perhaps sims could live together, but each sim will be controlled by different players. The game will observe your sim so when you leave, the sim will do what you usually do.

Option 2: Each player has a household. Each player will have a household of sims they control who have free will (depending on options). Each player can move their household around and aging can be enabled. If another sim gets asked to move in, you'll get a prompt asking for your premission. Sims can visit others' households and throw/be invited to parties. There are a lot of ideas that can be taken from The Sims Mobile...

Option 3: Each player has a neighborhood. Each player will get a neighborhood which they are free to build on and populate. They can play the households only on their neighborhood, but they can visit other neighborhoods anytime they want. A great way to see how a town is going to look like...

Option 4: Each player has a world. Each player will have a world (collection of neighborhoods) on which they can build on and populate. They are free to visit other worlds (perhaps even go vacationing in other players' worlds).

All of the above means players are free to set it. None of them means that Maxis should not spend time and money on it.

So what do you think? Feel free to add if you'd like.
  • We're still dealing with the effects of a game that was stripped down to next to nothing at launch because they had started out trying to make another stab at an online Sims game.

Even if they solve the problems of other online games, and the problems that arose in The Sims Online (like, uh, paying for woohoo), having to keep the game the same for everyone online means no mods, no cc, no custom saves in the online game.

I like the suggestion @EnkiSchmidt made about each player controlling a neighborhood where we get to decide the laws, with festivals and souvenirs and a postcard collection.

How about being able to make ALL the “Urbz: Sims In The City” interactions towards other people’s sims in the multiplayer version of “The Sims 5”? That would be so cool if ALL the interactions from “The Sims: Urbz In The City” were part of “The Sims 5”. Just a suggestion on my part.

    Okay actually better suggestion:

scrap sims 5 for time being
    and keep to ts4

but make some dang fun spin offs while at it

and since ea want multiplayer so bad
make it a spinoff thing instead of ruining main series over

You know, I agree with the idea. Like they did with The Sims Online (and they are currently doing with The Sims Mobile).

I feel like if there's a The Sims onlineplay game, it should 100% take gameplay and visuals from a existing game. I wouldn't want to see a new entry with new visuals and gameplay created only for onlline play. Singleplayer gamers should be also able to enjoy them.

At least that's my stance on that issue.
  • Sims 5 should be kept as a single-player offline game. Making a Sims game into an MMO would be like making Call of Duty into a kid-friendly learning game-neither one would make any sense.

    Same.
  • None.

The only online function I like in the game is the Gallery, and that's only because I can look for homes/community lots while in the game and not have to download them before playing, like in 3.

    bruh imagine tho

CoD asking you random unrelated educational questions before you can shoot

That reminds me of a kids app game I played once. It had microtransactions, because of course, but you were required to answer a decent math problem so small children could not spend money. I thought it was a pretty nifty little safety feature.

    Sorry for going off topic.
  • If there were to be an Online multiplayer I think your first option is how it should be done. Except it could function like club penguin/roblox/imvu where your sim disconnects with you instead of hanging around with nobody controlling it. Personally though there is absolutely no reason to make the sims into an online multiplayer - the level of online interaction we have with the Gallery is perfect for me.
