I would love to see toddlers return to the game. I am not at all a fan of the child leaping out of the basket into a child, and I really don't play with infants at all due to their being tied to the basket (although I do like that infants have arms and legs). I generally like most of the ideas I see here for toddlers and game play and my favorite toddler gameplay came from the Sims 2. There are some things about toddlers and game play that I would love to see addressed this time around.
One of my greatest peeves with toddlers in the Sims 3 is that parents will bring a toddler to a public lot, put the child on the floor, and ignore the child. Meanwhile, said toddler proceeds to cry due to low needs and parents were always slow to respond to them. This drove me nuts (and most sims on the lot), and I would often have my sim leave the lot due to a smelly, crying toddler (I also always felt sorry for the poor thing). If we do get toddlers, I would like to have a gameplay option for limiting toddlers on most public lots at the players discretion. Players could choose to 1. allow toddlers on any lot that allows children the way the game does now, or 2. disallow toddlers on all public lots except by player discretion/invitation or only on child specific lots like playgrounds or child development centers. I'd love to see lots specifically for children and families like playgrounds (not a park), and child development centers where parents could meet other parents, and kids/toddlers could meet others. It would also be a good place for toddler/child development objects for free use if you sim is too poor to afford them. Players could still invite a sim and their toddler to the home or to most public lots (minors do not belong in a bar/nightclub!), but sims would never bring their toddler with them if that option was checked.
I also like to see daycare expanded on. I like that infants are poofed off to the sitters as the sitters in both Sims 2 and 3 had issues. It would be nice to have the other options such as 1. enhanced (expensive) daycare where toddler skills are slowly raised while the child is there, 2. daycare as an in home job, 3. if the issues can be worked out, babysitters, nannies, or other family watching the child. At a minimum, I would love to see the private school type of day care, which should be easy to implement, and the ability for players to control a daycare with set hours. I suspect that sitters and nannies may be more difficult to do and would likely turnout like the maids services(? not!) in game already. Honestly, I would rather not have sitters and nannies if they are like the versions in Sims 2 or 3.
