I did it... I finally gave in to that whisper in my ear to start making Sims 4 clothes...
As a hobby seamstress and a collector of vintage and retro sewing patterns, I'm never out of options to add something new to my wardrobe. But I just couldn't ignore that voice that kept telling me, "Ooh, you would look great in that", or "Wow, that would be an awesome item to make."
Then... almost a year into playing The Sims 4, I broke down and gave in to the voice. I'd love to share my first ever make! Or rather, my closest interpretation of it. A jacket from the base game, trousers from City Living, and shoes also from the base game. Tadaa!! Have a look!!
Pt. 1.2 - This project took me aaaaages to complete, because not only did I have to manipulate the seam lines, I also had to manipulate the fabric to get that diamond pattern. This is what I mean...
Top sketch shows the original base pattern. Bottom sketch shows alterations needed to be made with notes.
So, as you can see from the above image, the alterations I needed to make was to separate the top bust and back shoulder area from the lower part in order to create the shoulder yoke and then to bring those pieces together to eliminate the middle seam to create one piece. I also had to add welt pockets the side front so that the zips could be placed.
I had to unfortunately deviate from the game's garment by adding shoulder darts to the back so that it can contour to the body's natural curve (unavoidable), and the darts for the curve aspect also had the be added to the centre back seam and the sleeves (which the game's garment does not have).
Now for some close-ups!!
The sleeve zip.The side zip/pocket.The front of the jacket in all its glory.
The trousers with the closest depiction of the snake skin print I could find. I deeply resent this fabric choice.
Now for the not-so-good part. Turns out the PU leather I chose for the trousers flakes horrendously around the stitched areas. I won't be able to wear them until I acquire a special fabric glue that will keep the fabric from flaking any more than it already has 😢
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And to add the cherry on top of the cake.... The shoes!! I found the exact shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The full body screenshot doesn't show all the details, but when you zoom in on them in the game you can see the seam contours and lacing perfectly.
Tomorrow I'll be stepping out in style. Sims style, that is. Haha!
You did an amazing job! It looks just like the Sim outfit! ❤️
I've done a fair share of sewing projects in my time and I especially love vintage and costuming. I've never done a Sim outfit before but I've considered doing a rendition of outfits from pieces of art from artists like Brom and Nene Thomas. Unfortunately, I never got around to it so I commend you for your dedication and meticulous work. It's no easy feat!
When you said you were working on a sims project I did not expect this 🤯 it's amazing, you are a very talented seamstress 😄 I've seen a few sims rocking the jacket but it's definitely cooler that you get to wear it in real life, thats great! Your little voice had the right idea! 😆👏👏👏
