@MadameLee That all sounds pretty good. And for the famine or drought, it isn't much, but maybe letting your sims be uncomfortable most of the time due to hunger and low hygiene, and never water any plants so they will look all dried up? It isn't much in terms of gameplay, but should portray it pretty well...
