Got my mods back, hope everything works :)
I'm off to do some homework and socialize, so I'll probably update this later today. Wanted to post it already in case I fall asleep again... :D

EDIT: edited to add story. I felt a little down today, that's probably reflected in the story. I wanted to add actual stuff happening, like her getting the lot, but I just... didn't feel that today. I hope you like it anyway! :)

January, Day 8 - "Home is where the heart is."

Lucy sighed. She'd spent yet another day just trying to stay alive and figure this out... And it didn't seem to ever get any easier.
And she couldn't lose control. Always having to function, being sure of what to do, being on guard... She just wanted to break down, cry, and be held by someone. But she was on her own now, and she'd known that when she made the decision to go away. Still... it was hard, at times. Really hard. Sometimes she didn't know how she could ever go on, how this could ever get better...
Then, she tried to remind herself of the good moments. The food, the salty air, Laika, giggling about her antics, the beautiful city she lived in now, her teddybear from Grampa on the mailbox... or the fact that everything she did was to make her life a little better. She tried, she made mistakes, but she wasn't going to give up. She couldn't. Somehow she'd live her life and find happiness - and every breath meant one more step on the way towards that. She was sure that going away had been the right decision, now she only had to figure out where to turn next and how to get there.
And, she thought, she wasn't all alone in this. The thought really helped... She had Laika, Grampa was watching her from above and believing in her, and she had found a place where she truly felt at home - where her heart lay. She'd found all of that on her own, and she was proud of herself. And for today, she decided, that was enough.
