Adding a pattern to recolors with paint.net
You'll need the Fill Plugin linked in the post above.
Seamless Pattern in either .png or .jpg format
If you need one to try, right click on this image and do a "Save As" to your desktop

Red Plaid 150x150
Open your .dds you've extracted in paint.net
Click Adjustments/Black and White

Click on your Magic Wand in the Tools panel and click on the empty space.
Edit/Invert Selection.

Add a new layer

Effects/Fill/From File

Browse to your seamless textures and click on the one you want. The pattern fills the selected area automatically. Use the Zoom slider to adjust the size of the pattern, and the Placement sliders to adjust vertical and horizontal placement. Click OK when done.

Click on Layer Properties, Mode/Overlay. Also on Layer Properties is a slider for transparency. If you want to make the garment more sheer, you can use this after you've merged all the layers down.

Merge the layer down to one.

You can just save it, or, if you're doing a set, do a Save As.

Save Configuration DXT5, Mip Maps on

If I'm doing a set I do a Save As, then keep clicking the Undo button till I get past the Fill step, then do the whole thing over with a new pattern.

Import your new .dds back into the .package using whichever tool you started out with.
