BnS #183 – Retro Revival☆ LaunchSneezes ☆Comments: This is such a cute family home! I love that you chose to place your house in Sulani, as that is my favorite world. Using the calming colors along with the sights and sounds of the ocean, your sim family is sure to feel very comfortable and relaxed here. The colors you have used and the style of the home suit Sulani perfectly. I love the big pool in the yard along with the big windows and the thatched roof. You have added so many great activities for sims to enjoy in this house and have used a nice amount of clutter to decorate the home. I love the toddlers’ bedroom! The view, the wallpaper, the reading area, the crafting and game tables all make this room spectacular! You have done a wonderful job on this home! Well done!Suggestions: The big pool is beautiful, but it would have been nice to see a few more activities for the children in the yard. I can see why you thought it would fit better in Henford-on-Bagley than in Brindleton Bay, it just has that countryside vibe. It definitely benefited from free window placement. The new windows on the front of the second floor are an obvious improvement. The landscaping is beautifully done and makes the house look so inviting. Great idea to turn the garage into a functional stable. The sunken living room is terrific. What a cute nursery! The baby’s going to get plenty of fresh air and sunlight sleeping under that window. The kids’ room looks so fun. Great voice of colors, it could be for a boy or a girl. And bunk beds! Another thing new since 2021, and such fun to build with. The metal frames are definitely the right style for this country cottage too. Suggestions: To take a screenshot of an interior space with no ceiling, use the level up arrow in Live Mode so the roof is visible,then go into Camera mode and use Q to lower the camera back down to the height you want. I hope you do have lights in the stable for the horses and your sims. You have a floating light in the corner near the sunken living. It looks like some windows are unevenly placed in the same area. A trick to make sure they’re even: When you’re placing windows, use a wallpaper with vertical lines, like Simple Siding, to help make sure they’re all on the same line. When you’re done, place the wallpaper you wanted to use. Please add captions to all images, not just some of them. ☆@AlphaFFrog ☆Comments: A church! I can’t say anyone has submitted one before, but I appreciate your creativity! Your background story about Ciara and ada and the screenshot of their meeting are so cool. I too miss Sim 3’s color wheel, but you did a great job recreating the church in Sims 4. It still has that old vibe, just well-cared for as you said. I like how you’ve included the information sign at the entrance. It could be anything from a church bulletin to a plaque describing the church’s history. The cemetery lookes appropriately spooky. The garden looks so restful and welcoming, sims will like relaxing there reading or enjoying nature. I would ssy you succeeded in creating a welcoming community lot. The tiles being darker on the uppler floor from lack of use was a great detail. The organ loft looks great despite the ceiling bug. Clever idea to use that fountain as a baptismal font. Actually, amazing attention to detail allaround - all the separate parts of the church with appropriate decor (and lighting!) for each. I love the basement bar - even a parish church has to make money somehow! Even the pets get remembered here, I don’t know too many real venues that do that. Suggestions: This is not really a criticism of your lot, but when I think of churches, I think of stained glass, so I’m a little disappointed not to see any in your build. It’s like a totally new build. The contrasting stone swatches on the upper floor give it a modern feel. Using different windows on each half gives each duplex some individuality while maintaining a cohesive look. Lovely landscaping. The purple room is so heavily decorated it’s hard to know where took. It must belong to someone who has lots of friends and loves to display their artwork. The backyard looks like a lot of fun for the whole family, with plenty of outdoor activities. This teen’s bedroom definitely has a distinctly different vibe, reflecting a sim whose interests run to football and fitness. I like the backstory you gave this family. Suggestions: When screenshotting narrow rooms, consider taking a top down view to avoid the fishbowl look - side walls that appear to stick on out at weird angles. It looks like some of your images got out of order, captains would have helped avoid confusion - which duplex does the first bedroom belong to? Is the highchair at the island routable? It doesn’t seem like it would be. The crib in the infant’s room definitely is not - even though the dresser is only blocking half of it, sims will see it as an obstruction. Moving the crib and chair over one square will make the area usable. Be careful of objects clipping into other objects. This happens in the parent’s room and in the nursery with the curtains.☆@HealthSims☆Comments: The new Old Salt House looks so sleek and modern, yet as if it has always been there. It’s beautiful in the misty morning light, which lends it a timeless air. Love the greenery on the roof of the second-floor balcony. Yes, pergola is the right word. A swim-up bar! What a luxury! Thank you for sharing so many images of the original build, it shows how far you’ve come. I think you wanted your sims to get some exercise by crossing the romo to use the toilet paper! LOL. The entry still maintains a hint of the original industrial vibe with the exposed brick. I see some excellent use of the new ceiling paints. Good idea to have a guest bath with a shower on the first floor in case the family needs to take a quick shower. With those big windows, sims will be too busy enjoying the view to get much work done. I do see what you meant about the evening light, it looks so pretty. The trophy case says a lot about this family. I like that some of the original graffiti is preserved. Very nice living and dining area, a perfect balance of modern and industrial. Game nights must be a lot of fun! And they have a fireplace too. A family of eight could definitely use those 2 fridges. Love the plant divider, creative. I would say don’t worry about the laundry, if you had room for a shelf then sims have room to stand and use the space. Sims will love painting the sunset at the easel.Suggestions: Could you have chosen a shorter half-wall height so the wall wouldn’t stick up so far beyond the “shower” door in the guest bathroom? One thing that’s missing is exposed ceiling beams, which would have been consistent with the industrial style. This effect could’ve been achieved with spandrels on the third floor. Some kind of blinds would have looked nice in the office for some privacy. Speaking of the third floor, looks like that staircase is missing a railing. An open staircase is fine for this style of house, but not so high up. ☆@mandacaju☆ Comments: Sulani Family Vacation is a beautiful tropical home. Sims will have a lot of fun hanging out on the deck enjoying the ocean and the beautiful views. Your presentation reads as if it was written for a vacation rental site. I love the painted ceilings inside, very tropical. The living room looks like a nice place to relax and enjoy watching TV or just look out those big sliding doors to the patio. The clear stair rail and fence add just a touch of modernity without detracting from the overall feel of the build. The color palette is soothing, evoking images of beaches and sand. Vacationers are going to love the easy access to the outdoors from the kitchen, perfect for entertaining. Great idea to include an outdoor shower, that will be very useful. I love the glass floor in the primary suite, what a creative, unexpected surprise! I can see how much of an improvement the new house was over the original, which looks very humble in comparison.Suggestions: Some of your camera angles looked a little off. Try experimenting with camera positions and zoom levels to make them look a bit straighter. Check out the Screenshot guide linked to the main challenge post. Though it’s a vacation home, I would have liked to see some artwork and more clutter in the bunkroom. Perhaps a Sulani style vase on the dresser. That’s a first, and what a lovely build it is. Even the original was very nice, elegant and impressive as a concert hall should be. But it definitely benefited from the larger lot and the extra landscaping outside, which helps to draw the eye. Excellent choice to use those clef statues arranged in two groups of five. The landscaping is tasteful and elegant. I love the below ground-level entry. All those glass roof tiles must give the concert hall a bright, airy feel when the weather is nice. Creative use of the dance floors - yes I know that’s what they are. The entrance looks great, with the wall speaker and an ad featuring a singer. Fancy restroom. Great job using the platforms as stages, that was such a useful update! The green planters make lovely backdrops. I don’t know if it was intentional, but you’ve got a second set of 10 - 10 chairs in each music hall. Love the detail of a No Phones Allowed sign. Sims will like spending time in the lounge and cafe areas, either chatting or having a drink or snack or even listening to the music drifting up from below. Suggestions: Since the restroom is so small, you could have taken a top down screenshot to fit the whole space without any odd camera angles. I do think four steps up to the stage might be a little high. Three steps might have been better. It looks so welcoming, pets won’t be scared to come here. You went above and beyond putting in the time and effort to create that handicapped parking sign out of fencing. Love it and the ramp, great attention to detail. All the realistic touches are appreciated. The inlaid paw marks are charming. Cute cat mural in the bathroom. I like that al the vet rooms are different colors but with the same decor. THe first floor break room looks cozy and relaxing. I love the decals and posters in the pet rescue side. I had to chuckle at the cat decal that looks like it’s standing on top of the cat tree. I imagine Jack or his employees will lov sitting beside the lounge’s fireplace on cold days. Jack will love his office with all the green. The winter l against the banana leaf print is an interesting contrast, but appropriate for a man named Frost. I don’t think I’d have thought to use that particular wallpaper on the interior, but somehow it works in the bathroom. The bedroom looks comfortable and spacious. Good idea to incorporate both of Jack’s interests by adding the painting room/art studio. Those big windows give it plenty of light.Suggestions: Again, I love your handicapped sign, but it’s not very visible - it should be a lighter color to draw attention. Some of your interior screenshots look unsteady, as if the camera was at an odd angle. Work on that, zoom in and take screenshots of smaller areas if you have to so the walls look straight. For the smaller rooms, you could have taken just one aimed straight down. Why do the stairs to the second floor have a different wallpaper than the entry walls? ☆@KiteldesignsComments: This boarding kennel looks very sturdy and safe, well-suited to Magnolia Promenade with all the brick inside and out. The landscaping is so tidy, with a touch of fun from the statue at the corner.. The contrasting shades and patterns of wood in the entry foyer draw the eye. The fishtank brightens up the space. I love that you enlarged those two dog statues and put them in the corner of the room. Is the area with all the shelves and supplies meant to be a store or a storage room? It looks well-stocked and was a great idea either way. The kennels may be small, but they’ll definitely get lots of light from those big windows. Suggestions: Captions under your images would have been very helpful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such large windows in public a bathroom - especially without blinds to cover them and give a sense of privacy while letting in some light. The windows are also a problem in the grooming room? Where a counter is clearly clipping into the window behind it. I would have liked to see at least one toy in the indoor kennels and some fun pet-themed wall decor used throughout. Where is the break room and office? The layout views? The green and white give it an energy appropriate to an art museum. Eventhe floor tiles are fun. That said, mixing up different shades of green would be more restful, especially in the reading nook. It was a great idea to create separate nooks ,each with their own purpose. Jack will definitely have trouble getting his employees to go back to work with all they have to do in there ]☆ Aaleyn ☆ I love the use of the green banana print wallpaper as an accent wall in The Break Room. I love the painted ceiling, it’s perfect for this room. The stone floor separating the kitchen from the rest of the room was a great idea. The hall table near the door is a great space to drop small items like keys or purses as employees enter the break room. And they have a mirror to check their appearance in too! I like the bamboo dividers separating the sitting area from the chess table, they go perfectly with the wallpaper and rug, just a little on the wild side while bringing some nature into the room. The kitchen is so well-stocked, with plenty of room for multiple sims to use it at once. Sims will enjoy the view out of those huge windows while they eat. And the winner is Aaleyn!. Those flannel pajamas will be cozy in the winter. And the athletic outfit is his favorite color, that will make exercise more enjoyable. Don’t worry, the skin color difference between his neck and chest area won’t be held against you. Now I’m curious what kind of beanie you had in mind for cold weather, but the one you picked works, at least for the color scheme. Vern is so cute! The pink shingles are the perfect choice for the style of house that you designed and the columns separating the rooms really add an elegant touch to the dollhouse as well. The pool in the yard really feels like one that you would see with a real doll house and the patio tiles suit the build nicely as well. You have furnished the interior of the doll house beautifully! It looks so elegant and feminine with all the pink and expensive looking furniture. My personal favorite room is the nursery. Well done! Suggestions: Although it is probably not necessary for a dollhouse, I think it would have looked really pretty for you to add some railing around the stairwell. ☆ WisdomBuilders ☆ Your doll house is very creative! I love that you chose to build it in Sylvan Glade. The pink lighting of that world compliments the doll house quite nicely. The way that you designed the house to look like it can fold together is a great idea! You have added so many great activities and skills for sims to enjoy and the detail on the home is very well done. You even added cracks on the attic walls and spider webs! Your landscaping looks great as well. The flowers really suit the doll house and the world it is in. Nicely done! Simple yet very effective build. Great job! The gazebo in the backyard is awesome. And the little square in the back is a great touch. It looks like a very serene place to sit and enjoy a nice day. You have listened to the request of the Olsens to have a modern interior. It’s light, spacious and not many details. Yet, I do have a suggestion, while modern is often combined with minimalism, it’s not empty by that definition. I miss some art on the walls, or some center pieces to decorate a room. Details that finish a room. Love the colours for each room though. Some work better than others. I love what you did in the woodshop room, the cabinets around the ‘desk’ you have created is very creative. Well done, and the colours match what is the main attraction of the room. You found a very traditional style of colonial, good job. The roofline works great too. Nice touch breaking it up with a gable. The landscaping is bare, but that fits a colonial styled house. I think you made a good choice to keep it symmetrical. Your interior has a very practical layout, but I’m not too sure about the same flooring in every single room. It gets a bit repetitive? Maybe a more subtle flooring would’ve helped, or more rugs in strategic places. Overall it looks pretty modern, which is wat the Olsens wanted. My favorite place would be the living room, that looks very homey, yet modern. A place to live.

Great job on capturing the colonial style with your exterior. The decking, and the siding you have chosen really fits it. The roofline looks great too. The layout of the house is also fitting for a colonial style house. But the furniture you have chosen fits the wish of the Olsens of having it modern. While the furniture fits the modern theme, the wallpaper you have chosen does not. That may be a point of attention. The Dining room does have it all, modern furniture and wall paper. The art fits it too. The kids room looks very cute. Great solution for a media storage thing in the living room. Great use of the cabinets. That is one of my favorite features in the house.

Very interesting build. There are so many different styles of colonial, that I didn’t recognize it as such right away. But after looking it up, I learned something new. The layout is practical, especially your second floor layout works well. The first floor has a nice flow, but I wonder if it may be a bit too open for a colonial. Though considering the Olsens having a modern taste I can imagine they break down the walls. Looking at your interior, I can’t help but feel it’s more industrial than modern. This is mostly enhanced by the wall treatment and the kitchen counters. but the furniture choices and the placement in the living area feels very modern. My suggestion would be to work a bit on tuning that together a bit. Though my compliments on the placement of feature items in the room. It’s a very large room, yet minilism goes really well with modern. So placing feature items like the piano and the buste are very well placed. Great job! My favorite room is the master bedroom + bathroom though. They are cohesive in style together and feels very comfortable.

Amazing looking American colonial. You nailed in terms of architecture and landscaping. The interior flows really well and is modern looking. I am sure the Olsens will love it. The layout is perfect for a growing family and you could even make it a 3 bedroom house. I’m amazed how much you got done with the budget. A suggestion would be to maybe add a curtain here and there. I love the master bedroom, where you have really made use of the odd shape and made it work. Well done!

It’s a shame you forgot your exterior pictures. So unfortunately I can’t say anything about that. But I can say something about the interior. Most of the items you have chosen and the placement fit the modern theme. I’m not sure why your pictures are so dark, since I can see lights in there. So I will let that slide :) My favorite parts are the rug under the dining room, the deck and the master bathroom (I assume?) I’m looking forward to your next build.

EXPERT RESULTS FOR CHALLENGE #4 - A Ghostly Design

A gorgeous Victorian from the front. Love the bump-outs, frieze choice and added details. Perfect front door choice. Nice use of terrain paint for the front walk. Cute fountain and lovely flower beds. I like the unified yet free-flowing look of the flower beds. Nice back porch with seating. Ghost gnome is a nice touch ;) Lovely color choices for the interior – a very soothing palette. Beautiful music room. I like the use of the arch to keep the rooms from feeling too compartmentalized while still keeping that traditional Victorian room layout. Great choice of clutter and décor elements. Rooms are nicely laid out and have a nice amount of décor items without being over-cluttered.

Suggestions
The purple in the master was a bit saturated for my personal taste, but without a color wheel, we don’t have a great deal of choice in that area. Fully explore all the added architectural details available for a Victorian in Sims 4.

(EDIT TO Add – seeing your Mr. Davis, I totally get it now – that color matches his aura almost perfectly!)

Lovely exterior. Love the mansard roof and turret rooms. Nice choice of brick and stone. Love the fencing choices. Gorgeous landscaping – like the use of the of the hedge. Love that you’ve included multiple fireplaces – very period appropriate. This is a very masculine interior design and looks very appropriate for the client. I love how it has a spooky flair yet is still versatile as a design. Love the music room with the inlaid marble floor!

Suggestions
Tad bit of unused space in the some of the larger rooms. Rooms tended to be smaller in a Victorian, so I think there would be less unused space.

Side note – thank you for providing a slideshow in addition to your video  I loved watching the video (your daughter is a very talented young musician!), and being able to refer back to specific photos in the slideshow was very helpful.

Oh my – what a gorgeous painted lady! The extra gingerbread details are just perfect. I love how you’ve created the illusion of a round turret roof out of what looks like two square roof pieces at right angles to each other (note to self to try that out when back in game). Gorgeous landscaping with both formal and informal elements. Love the back porch with seating. Wow – the landscaping around the statue and bird bath in the back yard is amazing. VERY creative. Inside – from the first room to the last the room, the proportions, décor elements and color choices are lovely.

Suggestions
Not sure what I can add… you captured the period and build requirements to a “t.”

This style of Victorian (empire? Not sure of the precise term) looks a bit more masculine to me and therefore perfect for the client. The build fits perfectly in the neighborhood. Love the friezes, window choices and columns. Very nice work on the architecture all around. Love the window boxes for flowers. Beautiful entry way and music room. Rooms are compact and look appropriate for the time. Performance room in the attic space is a nice touch.

Suggestions
Would have liked to have seen a bit more of the landscaping. Downstairs color palette is a tad monotone. Strategic pops of color would add more visual interest.

Interesting house shape and combination of brick and siding. Good use of windows, friezes and columns. Nice, traditional décor inside. I really like your kitchen choices. Lovely dining room. I like the look you achieved in this room with all of the decorative touches. Ditto on the living room.

The roofing on the uppermost section looked a tad out of proportion. Layout of the rooms is a little awkward.

Side note- from the overhead shots provided, it does not look like the bedrooms had the required ensuite baths; so you lost a few points in that area.

What a lovely front porch! I’ve seen homes like this in NOLA and Savannah where the entrance is on what is technically the 2nd floor. Very cool and period appropriate. Lovely gardens all around – nice mix of plant varieties and colors. I love your use of the roof tool. Great showcase of some of the options available. Inside, I like that you’ve used a bit of color and pattern in each room. Nice layout of the rooms. Love the tall cabinets in the kitchen.

Suggestions
As you noted, the décor looks a tad unfinished in spots. The eyebrow roof arches are a nice touch, but I think they typically would have had a window or vent in them.

Thanks so much for the feedback. That was pretty quick this time too. :) Congrats to all the winners!!!

Yep my interior decoration was definitely unfinished this time around. I decided at the last minute to enter, and just ran out of time. But I'm glad you liked the choices that I made with what I did. I was a bit tricky building with the porch leading to the second floor, but I was happy with how it turned out. As far as windows on the arched roofs...I wanted to, but they were too small for anything to fit. Maybe one day when we have Move Objects back...
