#BnS120 - There's Some History There

You can easily pretend the flutter in your stomach is just the plane beginning its final descent. The flight attendants have already walked the cabin to remind everyone to put their trays and seat-backs upright. It hardly seems like it’s been only 14 hours since you got the call from your former architectural professor from University.

The recent droughts have produced at least one small silver lining, and you’ve been asked to come visit the newly unearthed archaeological dig.

“You’ll love it,” the excited voice on the other end of the line had said. “After all, architecture is just as much about history as any other field. And who better to appreciate these buildings?”

Your professor always did have a flair, but to be invited to an honest-to-goodness dig site is a greater honor than you ever expected! To walk in the ancient footsteps of those who built before you, see the age-old tools - some of which are even still used today - and really experience a moment out of time.

The tires touch concrete with barely a jolt, the pilot is a good one! Before long you’ve got your luggage in tow and are greeted by a friendly face from years ago.

“I’m so glad you could make it!” Professor Webb says, taking your hand in a warm shake.

“I was so surprised to get your call, but I couldn’t possibly pass up this opportunity!” you say.

“Well, I have been following your career for years. You’ve made me so proud! You were always so eager and bright, but you’ve blown me away with your works. I though, if anyone would appreciate this momentous opportunity, it would be you!”

As the driver takes your suitcases and loads them into the trunk, you and your old professor climb into the back seat, catching up on old times. The drive lasts a few hours, and you’re eager to stretch your legs by the time you arrive at the dig. But it’s your breath you’re having to catch as you are lead up to the expansive site.

“Oh! Oh my goodness!” The scene is extraordinary! So much more than you had imagined. Not just a hole in the ground with some items of interest, but there is almost a whole foundation uncovered, detailed sections of flooring, even some posts still visible around the exterior.

Professor Webb leads you down to the lowest levels where you can get a good look. “Well? What do you think?”

“I think this is… a chance of a lifetime! I can’t thank you enough!”

The professor smiles, so glad you accepted the offer to come and help rebuild the ancient settlement.

ENTRY DETAILS: Just a quick one I made up, the pictures didn't turn out so good (maybe game camera settings) and this description is terrible I forgot to upload him and doing it last min that's why he isn't happy. (what a surprise lol) (maybe game camera settings) He's in the mid 50's. I went for a premade outfit but thats because it has a canvas jacket with lots of pockets and large pant pockets with is great for an archaeologist, leather boots. Because he can't pack much when he's out in a dig he has a fun formal look to spice up his look. His athlete clothes are just a plain shirt and sweatpants that he can wear with other outfits and his sneakers his only pair to save space in this suitcase. He has a robe for warm climates and can wear the shirt and sweats if it's colder to bed, slippers are a most to go to the bathroom at night when sleeping in a tent so you don't have to put on shoes. His party look is on the plain side and once again can be used in other looks. Hot weather look is rolled up pants (can be rolled down to avoid scraps and stuff at the digs) a t-shirt with a bottom up over it encase it gets cool at night, scarf for sand and a hat for sun protection. Cold weather is a traditional professor look that he would wear in the classroom.

ENTRY DETAILS: The Aztecs we're a Mesoamerican culture from Mexico, from 1300 to 1521. Here is a digsite of an Aztec Temple where the Aztec sims worshipped the Freezer Bunny god. The temple was unearthed due to droughts and has been dug out. Unfortunately it was discovered 3/4 of the temple had collapsed and was filled up with stone and soil. However 1/4 of the temple remained relatively intact and even still has some treasures within. Also many offerings were found that the Aztec sims offered to their Freezer Bunny god.

ENTRY DETAILS: Sorry guys, I feel like this one is a fail I don't have the jungle adventure pack, and I just couldn't seem to come up with any good "dig" ideas. So I give to you (drum roll please) Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein's castle. More specifically, the castle where he spent a year of silence, just to better understand the sound of a whisper. This small castle was built in the medieval ages. It has been completely restored it to its former beauty, but I have made it fully functional by adding some plumbing.

ENTRY DETAILS: Temple of Balampalsoh was a ancient Omiscan ruin built in the Iron Age. The temple has been restored to its former glory and the adjacent smaller temple has been refurbished into public restrooms. (a Sim's gotta pee right lol) Set as a Museum but can also be set to a National Park. Amenities include: sheltered research area and picnic spot, meditation and painting.

Welcome to Abraja.
Long ago this was a thriving Mediterranean harbor town, until the sea swallowed it whole! When the sea levels suddenly rose at a never foreseen pace, this little town had no defense. After the sea swept over it, it eventually got buried under layers and layers of rock and dirt.
Now, we are bringing Abraja back to life! Excavations have begun on a small part of what we believe was the town center. We are working hard to restore this little jewel back to it's former glory and we can use your help to do so!

#BnS121 - Breaking Out Of The Box

While you are checking out at the grocery store, a young boy and girl come in and ask the cashier if she has any boxes for them. The cashier assures them that she does and will have them brought to the front as soon as she finishes checking out the short line of customers. You wonder what kind of school project they are doing as you walk out to the parking lot and put your groceries in the car. You push your empty cart back into the store as the children come out, struggling to carry four large, flattened cardboard boxes.

"I hope Daddy will be able to make us a bedroom with these boxes!" the girl says excitedly as the boxes slip in her hands.

"Hold them tighter," the little boy commands as he stops and waits for her to get a better grip on the cardboard.

Curious as to the actual use of the boxes now, you offer to help the children carry them. They agree. You grab one end of the flattened boxes, and the children each grab a corner on the other end. A short walk down the road and into an alley later, and an extremely unique sight greets you. It is a series of large cardboard boxes made into a sort of house with what looks like multiple rooms.

"That is our castle," the little boy says, pointing to the cardboard structure. "Daddy keeps adding rooms as we get more boxes."

"Daddy is very handy," the little girl adds seriously.

A woman's voice calls out, "Amada! Bernardo! Is that you?" The woman emerges from the huge set of multi-sized boxes, carrying a baby and leading a toddler. She freezes when she sees you.

You introduce yourself and explain that you are just helping the children carry the large boxes. Then you casually ask, "Do you live in these boxes? They are definitely well put together! Is that wax on the top?" You are seeing gobs of white, drippy stuff all over the tops of the boxes, and some of it is dried along the seams.

The woman thaws a little and says, "Yes, wax. We melt candles to make the house more water prof from the rain. It is my husband Domingo's idea."

"Genius!" you exclaim and are rewarded with a slight smile.

The kids beg to show you the inside, and you agree that you would like to see it. Reluctantly, the woman agrees and leads the way inside. Her children follow her, and you bring up the rear.

The first room is about four feet tall and six feet long by five feet wide. You notice odd pieces of wood taped to the "seams" in the boxes to help hold them upright. There are magazine pictures taped to the walls to make the interior more homey. A shabby rug covers a large section of the floor.

"This is our living room," Amada says shyly. "We sleep back there and our parents sleep in here."

"Come and see," says Bernardo. All three of you pass through what could be called a hallway. A small room on the left has a ten-gallon paint bucket with a cover on it, and you pause to look at it.

Amada sees you looking and says one word. "Toilet."

"Ahh!" you say. Interesting indoor plumbing you think as you continue on to the room at the end. A little smaller than the living room, this room has sleeping bags covering the floor.

"We will be able to build another bedroom as soon as Daddy gets enough boxes," Bernardo explains. "Then things will not be so cramped." Amada nods.

"How long have you been living here?" you ask quietly.

Bernardo looks at his hands. Finally Amada speaks. "Nearly two months. Daddy lost his job. He sold the car, but we still could not pay rent the next month. They kicked us out."

"But Daddy does odd jobs whenever he can. The guy that owns the restaurant here let's us stay in his alley and use the hose for water," Bernardo adds defensively. "And our older sister Emelda works part time at a fast food restaurant. She brings us food at night that they think she has thrown out. Sometimes she picks up a few side jobs, too."

"So, five children and two parents..." you say, thinking aloud. The children nod in agreement.

Taking a last look around and leaving with words of encouragement to the family and a $50 donation for their needs, you venture out into the dusk. You slowly walk back to your car, vowing silently to help this family as much as you can.

The next day you send an employee over to collect the father and oldest daughter for full-time jobs with good pay and benefits. You set them to work at your newest construction site, building their very own new home ( without telling them, of course).


THE BRIEF


You chip in §30,000 of your own money and manage to raise another §30,000 from generous community members for a total budget of §60,000.
Use a 30x20 or 30x40 lot. The cost of the lot comes out of your §60,000 budget.
Design a 4 bedroom/2 bath home for the destitute family.
The toddler and baby will share a room. You can either have the two girls or Amada and Bernado sharing a room as well.
Include laundry, an eat-in kitchen, a family room, and an outdoor play area for the kids.

ENTRY DETAILS: A smartly engineered home. I designed this as if the first 30G was donated money, and the other 30G was from items donated by the community. The solar panels donated by the Energy company. The garden plot put together by the local gardening club. Counters and fridge donate by a restaurant supply company. Books and toys donate by town members, etc.
This home has the solar panels to reduce electric bill costs, Rain Tank to help with the Garden plot and to lower water costs. Fire places to reduce heating costs. Garden plot to supplement food stores. Although there still needs to be some homey touches needed, it is a lovely home for the group of 7
The Main living area is on the 2nd floor, to take advantage of the natural light from the many Windows. Kids can do their homework at the dining table, or at the computer desk. A toy box for the kids to play as well. Mom can watch from the living room, or while cooking. The bedrooms are on the first floor.

ENTRY DETAILS:
This house is built to provide natural air conditioning, by putting most of the living areas in the basement, where the temperature is more constant. It does have a thermostat, just in case the temperature does need to get regulated manually. The attic features a master bedroom, space to hang laundry, and a small study area. The ground floor has a live-in kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom. The basement features a living room, two bedrooms, a bathroom and an extra room.
When the family heard the house they built was for them, they were overjoyed. The parents decided to spend the money mostly on family spaces and the kids’ rooms and kept their own bedroom simple but comfortable. Emelda wants to get big in fashion, and because she has a job and is making money of her own, she has a big walk-in closet for all the clothes she’s certainly going to buy now. She also got her own laptop for schoolwork and fashion designing. The bedroom on the ground floor has been designated the toddler/baby room and is least decorated of all, as the family figured the tot and baby would grow out of it so fast it was a waste of money to decorate it too much. The shared kids’ room, however, has been fully decorated to each kid’s individual taste. They each have their own desk for doing homework and they both got to choose how to paint their own half of the room and what carpets to get on the floor, etc. The extra room was turned into an activities room and was decorated using a little of everybody’s input. It features many different activities, so the kids can finally have a chance at developing whatever skill they want to. For the living room, the family decided to keep it simple and cozy. They have a nice wood burner, a bunch of couches and comfy chairs, and plenty of plants to give the space a less basement-y feeling. Every bedroom has their own laundry basket, so collecting laundry is easy for whoever is doing it this time (this family all do their part in the household). There is a clothesline outside, and one in the attic for the rare occasions of rain in the desert, or when a sandstorm is brewing. Outside on the patio they also have a small area dedicated to growing their own veggies, and an apple tree was planted outside to commemorate the joyous day of them moving into this wonderful house. The patio also features a barbecue and two picnic table, so they can all enjoy their meals outside if they want. At the side of the house there are two beehives and a lot of planted wild flowers, for mom’s new hobby: honey making. Then, at the back, there’s a little woodworking shed for dad, and a play area for the kids, including a kiddie pool to cool off in the desert heat.

ENTRY DETAILS: Full House is just as it sounds, a house made for a deserving family who can form their own basketball team. Originally the plan was for a 4 bedroom and 2 bath home. However this family has been cramped for too long. This home has a bedroom for everyone, no need to share. And I threw in an extra bathroom to help their sanity. This home hosts an open concept floorplan. The nice size family room is perfect to watch a nice wholesome Disney movie or maybe a family game night. It's not easy for a family of seven to all sit down and eat dinner together. This is not a problem for this home, with a table large enough to fit everyone and a few extra spots on the island for guests. There are a lot of stinky socks in a family of seven, luckily this home includes a laundry area. Who will do the laundry is a whole other story.

(FYI, I discovered only after I had finished the build--and was attempting to playtest--that bunks/loft beds no longer seem to work. I Googled around, and this seems to be a thing since the patch in November 2018?? I haven't played in a while and was not aware of this, but I didn't want to change my whole room around for the sake of playability in this case.) ALSO...Bernardo's portion of the room in the final picture on Imgur is slightly different than the top down view. I swapped out the pool ladders for wall shelves and added a guardrail. ENTRY DETAILS: The thought that popped into my head was that I acquired two new but incomplete single wide trailers one red the other blue and butted them together at the hallway and then added the porches and stuff. The front stick-out is the study and the living room, the back stick-out is the kitchen with eat-in dining table. I find this layout very playable as my preference for playing large families is to be on one level. This is a nice fenced lot near a playground with plenty of greenery around even though it is in the city.

Diego Reyes is a Salvadorada native who left for Windenberg when he was young, wanting to find a life different from what was available at home. He met Renata, who was working as a barista at the time, and quickly fell in love. The pair didn't wait long to start their family, and for a while life was good, if not luxurious. Then it all went wrong and the family ended up on the street after Diego lost his job and their rental. Now, with their modest new home and new jobs for Diego and Emelda, things are looking up again.
I kept the family's clothing simple, mostly basics with some Salvadoradan influences mixed in to reflect their heritage. Nothing too fancy for this family, but they're not necessarily ragged either.

ENTRY DETAILS: After living for some time in a house made of cardboard we thought the family would enjoy a traditional and homey building. The parents room is downstairs and we tried to create an en suite bathroom mixed with a shared half bathroom for family and visitors. A living room with a reading nook and the eat-in kitchen complete this floor. Upstairs is for the kids. The baby and the toddler share a room ready for two toddlers and easy to upgrade for two kids. Bernardo has his own bedroom and the two big sisters share a bedroom. The laundry and another full bath equipped with a potty for the toddlers are in this floor too. From the kitchen or by the right side of the house you can access the backyard, with a swing, a kiddie pool and a sandbox for the children; and a table under an umbrella for the grown ups. The lot is open in the back as there’s a community bbq zone where they will be able to mingle with the neighbors.

#BnS122 - Summer Camp

It isn’t often you meet a client at a site, but this is the perfect day for it. The sun is shining and the whole land seems to turn its face toward its warmth and smile. There is a gentle breeze rustling through the trees and a bee bumbles past you as you walk from your car toward the shrieks of laughter coming from the children.

From across the field you see Mrs. Davis smile and wave at you. You return the gesture and soon are shaking hands.

“Thank you so much for agreeing to meet me here,” Mrs. Davis says.

“It is my pleasure,” you say. “Such a beautiful site. And the children already seem to love it!”

“We are hoping to make that a reality for many more children,” she says. “So many kids who have only ever known the city. Summer camp might be the first time they’ve ever been around trees and open air.”

You nod and take out your notebook. “So what are you looking for?”

“The usual, mostly,” Mrs. Davis says as she fends off a pair of rambunctious children playing swords with sticks. “Cabins for the kids, toilets and baths, mess hall, office...”

You are both distracted by the sudden wail of a child having fallen down and scraped a knee. Another adult scoops him up.

“Oh yes, and a nursing station,” she says with a sigh. “Of course, outdoor activities, too. That is the main point.”

“Of course,” you agree, jotting down ideas already as you look around you and think of how you can fit things in without losing the natural beauty here.

“When do you think it can be ready?” Mrs. Davis asks.

“I think you can expect your first batch of summer camp recruits two weeks from now,” you say with a smile, loving how surprised she looks.


THE BRIEF

The Budget is §199,000 (lot cost must be included in this amount)
On at least a 30x40 lot
Include cabins or tents for at least 8 children
The camp also needs hygiene facilities, a dining hall, communal gathering area, director's office, nurse's office, and at least three outdoor activities for the campers.

Camp SunnySim is all about getting back to basics and into the outdoors, and I’ve tried to make it feel like the camp blends in with the surrounding area. With space for 8 girls and 10 boys, the sleeping might be basic but the camp offers lots of activities…swimming and canoeing on the lake, fishing, horse riding, bike riding, axe throwing, camp fires and a climbing wall…..there’s also arts & crafts and a chance for kids to show off their talents on stage in the nightly show.

#BnS123 - The Family Emergency

You take a sip of tea as you gaze out of your office window, relaxing for a minute before you start designing for a new client. But there is a brisk knock on the door before Karla immediately bursts in looking excited and a little stressed out.

"Sorry to disturb you, but they keep saying it is an emergency," she sputters. Karla is Karl's sister whom you’ve taken on as a backup assistant while Karl is taking a well deserved vacation for a few weeks. In retrospect, it may not have been your best idea ever. You make a mental note to remind her to wait for the okay to come in after knocking.

"Who is saying that? What is going on?" you ask, feeling just a little stressed yourself by Karla’s frazzled manner. Karla may be Karl’s twin, but the two couldn’t be more different.

"The..." Karla consults her notebook. "The Costello family. Anthony, Irma, Regina, Maximilian,
Roberto, and...well, the baby. " She looks up and smiles widely, as if she has done a good job.

"Perhaps it would be easiest if you just let them in." You smile back and can't help wondering what the emergency is.

The dark-haired Costello family piles through the doorway. Karla closes the door a little too hard behind them, and everyone, including you, jumps. The man is tall and thin. The woman, who is holding a sleeping baby. The girl is a lanky teenager in old, faded jeans, and you note that her eyes are glued to her cell phone, tuning out everything around her. The twin boys are clearly dressed to try to mimic their older sister’s style, but they look like they have a bit of baby fat to get rid of in order to pull it off. The baby asleep in the woman’s arms (his mother?) looks just like a little chubby angel.

"Hello, welcome!” you say, trying to put the family at ease. Please have a seat and tell me about yourselves.”

Anthony gives you a firm handshake before taking his seat. You notice gray hairs and fine wrinkles, which were not distinguishable from a distance. When you glance at Irma, you notice she has the same gray hairs and fine wrinkles of age. They’re not elders yet, but they’re not as young as you first thought. The kids all look at the floor, sad and quiet.

Irma takes a deep, breath heavy with sadness and emotion. "We are sorry to burst in on you like this, but we are having a family emergency and desperately need help right away."

Anthony, also clearly fighting back emotion, avoids your eyes for a few seconds as he begins to explain, “The rogue tornado that tore through Sunset Valley a few days ago killed our only son Chip and his wife Delilah. The children, thank goodness, escaped the worst of the storm since they were in class at the Community School for the Gifted at the time."

He shakes his head sadly and looks up at you. "So we are taking the children to raise, but our one bedroom condo in Bridgeport is just not enough space for six people."

"I am very sorry for your loss, but I do agree with you. That condo sounds very cramped," you say sympathetically. "Sounds like you need a new house, and fast."

"Well, yes and no,” he clarifies. “We have a fairly large plot of land with a vacation cabin on it in Willow Creek. It already has two tiny bedrooms - just big enough for two single beds and a dresser in each. A little bathroom, a hallway, and a family room with a small galley kitchen comprise the rest of the cabin. Great for a few days vacation, obviously, but not for constant living," Anthony relays.

Irma chimes in. "We are really hoping you could add at least two more baths, expand the current spaces, and add at least two more bedrooms. And a laundry room is vital - we’re doing laundry constantly with all these precious darlings," she says, gesturing to her new brood.

Anthony adds, "Irma is the best baker I know, so the kitchen needs plenty of counter space, please." Irma blushes a bit with pride and gives Anthony a beaming smile.

"What about style, colors, finishes?" you ask. Irma, obviously the planner of the family, hands you a piece of paper which you start to glance over.

Anthony explains, "Irma made up of a list of our must haves and likes. Our budget is only $135,000. Do you think you can make it all work?" He looks slightly anxious.

You smile reassuringly. "Definitely! We can have the house renovated to your specs in no more than two weeks. Is that soon enough?"

"We really appreciate that!" Irma says, tears welling in her eyes.

Hiding a bit of emotion of your own, you lead Anthony and Irma through the paperwork and begin planning their new family home.


THE BRIEF


You must use the house Rindle Rose which totals §36,774. You have §135,000 to spend in addition to that amount, for a total of §178,000 (rounded up from §177,774).
You can place the house on any lot Willow Creek, but you must include the cost of the lot in the §178,000 budget.
You can change all of the wallpapers, flooring and interior furnishings as you see fit.
You cannot delete the outer walls, but you can completely gut the inside and add walls onto the current exterior.
Keep the existing foundation and wall heights the same - these cannot be changed.
You can add a basement or upper floor if you wish.
The Costellos prefer soft pastels or neutral colors for the living areas and master suite.

The baby (can be a toddler) responds well to bright, primary colors. It loves learning toys and teddy bears.

ENTRY DETAILS: Whooo boy this build was a challenge but still fun. Updating a small starter home to now house a family of 6? The kitchen is build for a creative baker. The living room and master suite all have a quaint and homely vibe filled with family photos and books. The researcher of the family can hone his writing skills at his desk. Downstairs there is a bathroom as well as a laundry room with seating area. Upstairs are the kid's bedrooms and bathrooms, each designed around their specific likes.

ENTRY DETAILS: This challenge is a collaboration between me and my 11 year old Sims addict (I asked for some ideas on a bedroom and she took them all over then just got involved with the entire build!). We’ve fallen in love with the Costello family!
We kept the exterior look and feel of the original cottage at the front of the house so that it wouldn’t be too much of a big change for the devastated family when coming home but fully modernized the interior into an open plan space to enjoy family life. Four beds, four baths and a laundry room with plenty of outdoor seating too.
The build cost was higher until I started replacing with the new freebie build items but I think the Costellos will enjoy having some extra savings to spend on trips and holidays!

ENTRY DETAILS: Even with their new house to fit their new family, the Costello family wanted to honor their late son / father. The sunflowers in the front yard were planted in honor of him, as sunflowers were his favorite flower. The living area is lined with floral arrangements thanks to the generosity and condolences of their friends, family, and community. In the upstairs hangout area, Chip's surfboards can be found, as surfing during vacations was a passion of his. The renovation team wanted to make the move a little less difficult on the kids by creating amazing bedrooms for them that they can use for years to come.

ENTRY DETAILS: I've built and decorated a 5x6 room for a toddler. The room's themes are primary colours, bears & toys, and learning & books. This would be a good room for an independent toddler to build the thinking skill. In my build, I have a closet built into the wall however I've removed the divider so that it could be uploaded to the gallery as one room. I usually don't put this much work into designing a single room, so this was a nice change of pace!

ENTRY DETAILS: I decided that the cottage was Tony's childhood home that he had kept as a vacation property. I used Cypress Terrace because it feels like a more rural/natural area. The home now has a basement for laundry and working out. The main floor has an open front room, a bedroom that was converted to an office, the pink half bath is still pink and the kitchen is a new addition. All the bedrooms are upstairs. There is a covered patio and pool and the rest of the back yard is without a doubt the playground of children.

ENTRY DETAILS: Keeping the cottage look of the original helped save money when adding on to this home for the family we did move the front door to the right when facing the front entrance and moved some windows extended the front porch and added a back porch and an up stairs. we doubled the with of the main home and added to the back of the house to make sure we could add a second bathroom on the first floor and laundry and larger kitchen and dinning up stairs we added a bathroom three bedrooms and hallway. Now there is ample room for this family to heal after the devastating loss. Added a small pool for the teen Regina and the twins to have friends over. With camp fire and picnic table as well. ball pit and swing for the toddler.

ENTRY DETAILS: Rindle Rose was moved to the Garden Essence lot in the Foundry Cove neighborhood of Willow Creek. After alteration, the main shape architecturally is the same .. The whole Home was made bigger several feet on each side without changing the original shape . Rindle Rose 's expansion included : Adding a second floor . Expanding the main House print outward, around the side perimeter ,and back of the house. A fire place was added, along with a slight change to the main floor plan . Some windows were changed & others were added. The exterior facade was changed all around as well. ( I took advantage of many of the unlocked items from Debug, many were worth $ 0.... )

Built on the original Rindle rose lot, this 2nd Floor Expansion, and first floor remodel gives the Costello family plenty of room to live and grow. The twins share a room, but each get to express their personality. Regina has her own room, which she spends a lot of time painting and practicing dancing. The toddler Emilia has her own room as well, and it is full of stuffed animals. The master bedroom is the Costellos oasis, with an ensuite bathroom. The Kitchen features a large spacious island, and enough room for Mrs Costello to bake. A large dining table fits all the family, and enough seating for the family to hang out together in the living room THere is a computer in the kitchen so Mrs Costello can watch the kids do homework. The large laundry has plenty of storage and room for the kids to put their shoes and coats. The outside area, although small, provides space for the kids to play, and Mrs Costello's growing garden

ENTRY DETAILS: The Costello vacantion home after the expansion. Everything the family needed and wanted was added, and hopefully they will love it!
The old vacation cabin has been completely transformed and unrecognizable.
It now has 5 bedrooms, and 4 full baths.
A large living and dining area plus a very large kitchen with many counters.
There are even counters on the porch in the backyard.
The yard also has a pool, jacuzzi, sandpit and plenty of nice seats.
The backyard doesn't get much sun during the day so i made sure they had a large balcony at the front of the home, with a lot of sun.
Here they can go when they want more sun, and also do some gardening.
Last, the basement, dedicaded to the kids, to play games, relax with friends, and have danceparties!

ENTRY DETAILS: I have given the Costello's a large country farmhouse style home, with a wraparound deck. I have added onto the main floor and put a basement under the new addition, I specifically added the basement so that the family will have a place to go to be safe if another storm hits the area. I have also added a second floor where there are five bedrooms, so each grandchild can have their own room. I came in under budget when I was able to use the new free landscaping items (Yay!) So I would highly recommend to the Costello's to use the extra money to invest in a maid

#BnS124 - Solving The Seniors Situation

The deadline for this challenge is 7th August 2019

You are walking in the park enjoying the crisp breeze on your face during your lunch hour. You notice some young children with a large collecting tin and a sign that reads, "Pleez donayt to r Grammies and Grampas." Bad spelling aside, you are intrigued and go over to ask the kids why they are collecting money for their grandparents.

A freckle-faced little boy pipes up. "The floods got their houses. My grammy and grampy lost theirs. It floated away!"
"My Nana's house got under water on the first floor. She can't bake us cookies anymore," adds a little girl with big green eyes. Tears run down her face.

A young lady nearby comes over to comfort the little girl. "It is the whole street, really, that needs help," she explains as she hugs the girl. "With all the recent heavy rains, the river flooded. Most of the older homes were built close to the water, so they flooded or were washed away. The ones that flooded are full of dangerous black mold. The senior sims living there cannot afford to move or rebuild. I am in the process of setting up a website to accept donations for them, but the kids could not wait to get started!"

You think things over for a few minutes. You had a really good year last year, and this year is doing even better so far. All things considered, you feel the urge to give back to the community- starting with these senior sims!

"I think I know a way to help," you say brightly to the group. Turning to the young lady, you continue, "If you can gather names, number of occupants, and what they need in a home, I will see what I can do!"

"You mean you will donate money to them individually?" the young woman asks, perplexed but pleased by your offer.

You dig a card from your wallet and hand it to her. "Actually, I am an architect. I would be willing to donate my time, services, and some materials to rebuild these homes. Feel free to add my name to your list. Getting the press involved may be a good idea as well," you suggest. "I know many people around here have big hearts and would be willing to help!"

The children cheer as the young lady thanks you sincerely. She promises to get the information to you as soon as possible.


THE BRIEF

Choose ONE of the three senior sims to build a house for, making to sure include all their needs/wants in the build.
To prevent future flooding, the houses need to be built on stilts or foundations at least 8 steps high. No basements, please.
Since the houses were near the river, try to have a water view (ocean or river ) or add a strip of water down one side of the property.
The budget is $125,000. (Be sure to include the cost of the lot in this amount)

The Senior Sims

Mr. Bao Chang--needs one bedroom, a martial arts/exercise room, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchen/family room combination. He prefers sunny and calming colors.
Mrs. Aibreann Byrne--needs a bedroom, a large guest bedroom for grandkids to visit, a bathroom, and kitchen/family room combination with a space for baking cookies. She also loves plants and gardening.
Mrs. Petunia Livingston--needs a bedroom, a large bathroom, and a kitchen/family room combination. She also needs a "creativity room" for her writing and painting.

Entry Details: I decided to go with Ms. Aibreann Byrne. She has 4 grandchildren, Brant, Brayden, Tessa, and little Alexandra. Mr Bao Chang is a Chinese actor and martial artist looking to start a quieter life. He's focusing on teaching and choreographing stunt scenes for the movies. This kitchen and family room is in the private, residence side of the property. Working with the Selvadoradan cabinets, the room uses peach, orange and yellow to promote a sunny mood. Contrasting bits of blue add a calming influence, mahogany wood tones bring masculinity.

#BNS124 Solving Seniors Crisis, #KitelDesigns This is the Home of Mr. Bao and his Kitty Cat Mr. Fluffy. He lives in a simple one Bed 1 Bath home. He does not have a large kitchen but doesnt need one. It does what he needs. His Tea room and home gym open up to grand views of the garden and nature outside. The simple life is for hime and he enjoys it. It may not be easy, but his martial arts training tells him life worth living is not easy
It is a traditional Japanese build ( I know he is Chinese). His kitchen is small, as mentioned. Most asian style kitchens are not that large. His tea/sitting room, and workout room have sliding shoji walls that are open at the moment to look down at the beautiful garden. He does not have a washer and dryer, preferring handwashing and drying.

ENTRY DETAILS: (Be sure to tell us about your entry) Mrs Livingston Knows her house needs to be on stilts or high foundation but her legs just cant do stairs like they used to so as an added requirement the terrain had to be created so that there was minimal steps into her main door. Having lived for years on this family lot that has been handed down for years she was heartbroken when the old home had to be tore down due to all the mold from the flood. She did manage to save a couple of pieces that she could have placed in the new home. Her great grandparents bed and the Photos that were carefully restored. Having a new creative space is so exciting for her despite all the sadness of losing her home.

ENTRY DETAILS: I went in another direction with this build. I built in Forgotten Hollow. On the Fledermaus Bend lot. The back of the home is up against the river. Luckily this home was not majorly damaged.The first floor flooded ( ground floor ) . I water proofed the home and raised the foundation.. As you will see there is storm damage,Puddles, down trees and debris on the homes front lawn..I built for Mrs. Aibreann Byrne. The home has 1 master bedroom, a large guest bedroom for grand children to visit, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen/family room combination with a plenty of space for baking cookies. And a small green house for her plants and gardening.The home is child friendly & lovingly lived in.. The Wonderful art included is by roseymow from the gallery..

ENTRY DETAILS: So, build a home that’s proof against a future flood with a house raised well above ground level that’s suitable for a senior citizen to live out the rest of her life …… and do it with a limited budget and deliver on a short timescale - certainly was challenge!
However after lots of research into the latest anti-flood building methods (and using many generous donations from local communities and our friends at Maxis Corp) we believe we’ve come up with the perfect solution for Mrs Byrne that meets all the criteria and then some.
The base premise of this eco-friendly build is to help avoid flooding whenever we can; next we ensured the build would survive intact if the floods reoccur and then we packed in as many features as we could to help Mrs Byrne cope if/when the worst does happen. Finally, as the majority of time life continues without natural disasters, we worked on making this home a lovely and accessible place to live for many years to come.
We’ve included some shots of the neighbourhood to give you an idea of the extent the damage the flood caused in the area (I was having fun exploring the new edit items so thought I may as well use them to help the backstory!)

ENTRY DETAILS: I chose to make a new home for Mrs. Aibreann Byrne. Nicely tucked away in Oasis springs by the water, her new home is on stilts so she has no more need to worry of the waters rising. I have given her a garden and a greenhouse so she can enjoy her plants, as well as a nice kitchen to bake cookies for the grandchildren. The second story of this home was designed specifically for the grandchildren, for when they come to visit.

Being a very creative lady, she wanted room for her "Creative Corner", where she could paint and write. And she wanted a big bathroom with space for a large jetted tub where she could soak. The house was built into a hill with tall strong stone foundations so she would be safe if another flood happened. And she wasn't disappointed - she absolutely loves her new house! #BnS125 - A Chalet Getaway

The deadline for this challenge is 21st August 2019

It is a chilly, rainy morning when Karl graciously shows in your next clients, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weston Vanderclump III. They are a middle-aged couple with plenty of character. Mr. Vanderclump looks dark and gruff, almost mafia-like in a pin-stripe suit; his wife looks bored and snooty. You try not to smile too widely as you greet them. After everyone is seated, you ask what kind of house the couple is looking for.

"We would like a fairly large vacation home," Mr. Vanderclump begins. "Chantal wants to get away for a little while."

"So, are you looking for a beach house?" you ask Mrs. Vanderclump.

She shakes her head slightly and looks down her nose at you. "Too common," she says in a voice so high it hurts your ear drums. You try to hide your surprise as she continues. "I am dreaming of a ski chalet in the mountains. I just love the snow! I grew up in the Alps, and that is where I want my retreat to be built. I want it to be spacious and inviting, with three bedrooms and two and a half baths. A large entertainment area is a must, since the kids may come up with friends from time to time. Hmmm...a loft to look at the views would be great, and a balcony or two would be nice. Space to house the snow mobiles and ski gear. Oh, that can be part of the garage." She looks at her husband as if she has just lost a puppy, and you turn a slight laugh into a cough.

"You may need to eat," he says gently, "a place to clean clothes, and a servant's quarters."

"True," she agrees, pouting a bit. "I want the outside to look like a traditional ski chalet on the outside, but the inside should be comfortable yet elegant. As in don't spare the expense." She looks down at her purse, then back at her husband. "A hot tub on a big party deck outside would be great as well. Just make it all look as ritzy as possible!"

You look up from taking notes. "And the budget?" You look at Mr. Vanderclump expectantly, but he looks away.

Mrs. Vanderclump speaks up again. "I am paying for the chalet with money I earned from doing voice work. I am a celebrity, you know! Anyway, I have $350,800 to use. Any money you can save I will put to new ski clothes, but the chalet is more important. How soon can you get it completed?"

"It will take two weeks to complete," you tell her.

"Marvelous! Thanks you very much and enjoy your trip!" Mrs. Vanderclump squeaks at you.

As the couple depart, you mentally rummage in your closet for suitable clothes to take with you to the Alps!

ENTRY DETAILS: 3 Story Mountain Chalet with a Lookout. 4 Car Garage (Plenty of room for snowmobiles. Also on the ground floor there is a swimming pool, Arts and Crafts room, a Gym, a Library, a Game room, a Disco/Dancing room, at the front, with large glass windows and doors leading to the 1sr floor Patio/Deck. There is also a 'fake' Hot tub on the Lower deck, as I don't have that game pack.
Moving to the 2nd Floor you will find the 2 large Mast Suites, each with 2large walk ins, a Master Bath and dressing room. There are also 2 smaller bedrooms, for an extra Guest and the Butler. Outside of the Butler's Quarters, is also the Laundry. Filling out the rest of the 2nd Floor is a large Gallery for the resident Sims to hang their most impressive art and entry to the 2nd Level Deck. The center of the floor is dominated by a quad-sided firelace, with seating on all 4 sides.
The Third Floor is all about food and drink, with a large Kitchen, build extra large for future proofing, if the owner decides to sell the lot for commercial use, as a B&B, Hotel or Lodge. The Dining Table seats 12+ guests. Along side the immediate dining are is a small pub, for refreshments. A Grand Piano is also situated in the dining area, for your guests to enjoy some relaxing music, whilst dining or lounging in one of either the larger lounging area, or one of the smaller, tucked away lounge areas. There are also 2 half baths on this level.
Topping off the structure, at roof level, there is a small Lookout room, with a fabulous view of the valley below.
NOTE: I hope all is situated. I made the mistake of not simply boring through and finishing everything in one go, and then I removed my mods folder, so that I could build and upload some simpler items and when I put it back, some things had changed and the price keeps fluxuating seemingly randomly. So, I uploaded the build before I could get too stressed about it. I still don't understand why it is not showing in the Gallery.

ENTRY DETAILS: Nestled in the foothills of the mountains in Granite Falls National Park, this is a four-storey secluded vacation home that will be the perfect retreat for Chantal and Charles Vanderclump. Filled with lots of art housed in gallery halls, there is masses of space for both formal and informal entertaining, a sauna, indoor-outdoor pool, party deck with hot tubs, a viewing loft and much more. There is a master suite, two guest rooms and small apartment for the live in help. Oh and there is a total of 8 balconies if you count the entrance, plus the deck, so views at every turn!
I wanted to try a large scale build which I haven’t done much of and had real fun with the exterior (roofs are tricky!!), but boy did it take some decorating! As I only got back from hols on Saturday so was short on time I once again enlisted the help of my 11 year old sims addict who decorated all bedrooms and the small apartment.

ENTRY DETAILS: I created the entire Vanderclump family. This includes Chantal, the rich voice actor, who is a Mansion Baron with business savvy, materialistic, a snob, and very self-assured and her husband Charles, who is fabulously wealthy with business savvy, a kleptomaniac ambitious, and neat and is rumored to be the head of a "family" of business associates (wink, wink). Hazel Rayann Sullivan is the family's long time housekeeper, and Mr. Vanderclump's bit of fluff, as he likes to call her. The two have a twelve year old daughter together named Brianna Charly Sullivan. Hazel is a master chef with essence of flavor, cheerful, neat, and jealous of Mr. Vanderclump's time away from her. Their daughter is erratic and an artistic prodigy. The married couple have two children: Bradford Dean Vanderclump and Roxy Marilyn Vanderclump. Brad is a chief of Mischief and dastardly, a snob, a kleptomaniac, and paranoid! He married an exotic young lady named Mai Lulee Chou Vanderclump, and she is a party animal and gregarious, hot headed, a dance machine, and a total slob. Basically , she was the gold digger who won him over with her good looks and fun ways. The couple has a toddler son that Mai Lulee does not want or care for. The baby's name is Rafe X Chou Vanderclump, and he is very fussy and demands his own way. Roxy, on the other hand, may just be the only sensible member of the family. She is an archaeology scholar and quick learner who is a bit of a goofball, a geek, and rather outgoing. She is still living at home since she is just out of college, but that may change soon! With this family, the drama never ends! From Mai Lulee's inappropriate attire to her bad mothering "skills," and the family trait of "borrowing," normal is just out of the question. On top of that, Charles is fairly open with his relationship with Hazel, at least in front of his wife Chantal. Somehow the older children and Brianna have no idea they are siblings. Brad and Mai Lulee often express their "love" out in the open, to the chagrin of everyone. Download the family and see just how messy their world really is!!

ENTRY DETAILS: Built in Windenburg in the Dresden house lot. This home blends in perfectly with it's mountain terrain surroundings. This home was designed with dark earthy colors and has everything the family needs to have a luxurious mountain getaway. It has a viewing and reading loft, 3 car garage, open basement, indoor pool, sauna, gym, home theater room, a hot tub on the party patio, and many other features. It also has a separate guest house that is designed specifically for the servant.
I have personally nicknamed this home "The House of many roofs" as it was a challenge to get them all to work together properly, but I really liked the floor plan so I made it work

“Alexander Benedict? Where have I heard that name before?” You wonder aloud, setting aside your coffee.

“He’s a renowned explorer and collector. He has a knack for making rare discoveries and solving some of history’s mysteries along the way,” Karl reminds you.

“Oh, that’s right.” You’re anticipating the man’s arrival now, trying to imagine what he could possibly want. You don’t have long to wait, as Alex Benedict arrives minutes later.

He gives you a charming smile. “I’m running out of room for all my collections and I’m tired of people trying to break into my house to have a look,” he begins, getting right to the point as soon as introductions are exchanged.

‘I understand. How can we help?”You sense this will be more than a simple addition to an existing home and are excited by the prospect.

Alex leans forward in his chair. “I recently inherited a plot of land which would be perfect for a small museum. I’ve heard many good things about you, in particular from Mayor Rose Curtis and the Newcrest Town Council, so I’m confident you’ll be able to meet my needs.”

“It will be a pleasure working with you,” you reply. “What did you have in mind?”

“I’ve always had an interest in history, including architecture, so nothing too modern on the outside. It must have a food court.”

“We can certainly do that. What about budget?”

“I recently sold off a few specimens. Will $200,000 be enough?”

“It should be. We’re used to challenges around here.”

“Great I’m off to track a missing ship, but I should be back in two weeks.”

“Your museum will be ready by then. Good luck.”

“Thanks.” With a hearty handshake, Alex takes his leave.

ENTRY DETAILS: The architect was unsure what style to go with until she saw a picture of Alexander dressed as a Roman Legionnaire. This ancient Mediteranean style build blends in with arid climates. The Sculpture Hall also has an exhibit of Simstagram prints, with snow globes in the gift shop. There's an ancient clothing exhibit. The War Room houses ornamented skulls. Finally, the premier room is the Gem Adventure which displays: metals, geodes, crystals, space rocks and magic beans.

ENTRY DETAILS: I went with an American Colonial Design for my Building. Like my first build, I am uploading early to prevent myself from adding more of what I want to do with it and having to delete things . The main museum area and bathrooms are located downstairs, with a food court, ticket counter and gift shop on the main floor. The museum has collections of Aliens, Elements, Metals, Space Prints and Space Rocks and since he was going to look at a shipwreck, I dedicated a section to treasure hunting in the sea and fishing, with the fish colection.

The Benedict Museum houses Alexander Benedict’s 15 full collections and his 7 partially completed ones. It has five separate Galleries, a mini food court, gift shop and gardens. This museum isn’t only about the collections though – Mr Benedict is such a famous and intrepid explorer that he’s an attraction in his own right, so throughout the museum there are photographs of Alex on his adventures around the world. (Thought I’d put my photography practice to good use!)
Most of the smaller museums in the towns around my area of northern England are housed in beautiful Grade II listed Victorian buildings and many have lovely gardens attached, so my architecture choice was an easy one. Despite the traditional exteriors these museums do a great job of making the Galleries modern & interesting, so I tried to do that too. My home town museum has an fairly dire aquarium/vivarium in the basement which I think has been the same since around 1940 and, despite how awful it was, I used to love it when I was small and then my kids spent hours (and hours and painful hours) in there too….so that got included too - although mine is much cleaner and prettier
My biggest learning curve in this challenge came from using coloured lighting for the first time to create atmosphere in the different galleries - and then playing around for hours to get the exhibits to show clearly in the screenshots for the slide show without killing the lighting effect I'd got in game. It's amazing how much difference which light you can use makes. I think I'm having as much fun with learning to take half decent screenshots as am with the actual building! A listed building may not be demolished, extended, or altered without special permission from the local planning authority.

ENTRY DETAILS: #BnS126 The full array of Omiscan treasures and artifacts as seen in the Benedict World Wonders Museum. To think - once upon a time Benedict had rescued these stolen relics from a museum and returned them to the Selvadoradan people. However, after a horrific storm left the Omiscan Heritage Gallery with significant water damage, Benedict offered to house the artifact and treasure exhibits.

ENTRY DETAILS: Alexander Benedict had a passion for exploration and collecting things right from being a small boy. He shot to global fame when, at just 22, he was the first to discover the Treasure in the Lost temple of Selvadorada – the media frenzy grabbed the attention of the world and Alex was suddenly the poster boy who made collecting exciting and sexy again. 13 years later he’s explored around the world and collected enough to open his own museum, and has recently bought a second home in Sulani.
I’ve not done a Sim entry before but I took that many photographs of Alex for my build that I thought I might as well try and use them!
