I'm having a go at this! My sim is on day 4. It's really difficult!! So good to have a way to make gameplay tricky and fun again. :)
On her first dumpster dive she found a It's a Shower Tarp so that's been a blessing. But so far no toilet or fridge, so she is spending a LOT of time in that shower and has almost depleted her supply of plants to snack on (and seems to get ill from plants every damn time lol).
I also farmed crickets because I thought the cricket flour might substitute regular flour (for Simple Living recipes) but it doesn't. Thanks, EA!
One thing that's proving difficult is thinking of new ways to create trash. What I might need to do is perhaps (cheat) sneakily use a nearby park grill (CHEAT) and grill up some fruit. At least she will finally get a meal and the rest of the leftovers can be packed into sack lunches for the dumpster. I'm desperate here! (CHEATTT!)
I have some general feedback so far:
- Your rules say "you may not leave the lot for any reason" but then also say you "are limited to collecting and fishing in the area directly outside their lot". I assume (esp because of the fishing) the first one means "you may not leave the neighbourhood"?
- Are we OK to collect anything at all from the neighbourhood *including plants*?
- I really wanted to leave Oasis Springs park intact in my save file so I tried placing your lot from the gallery into the 50x50 plot in Newcrest but the sub-ground levels didn't show up. It only shows up if you place it in the Oasis Springs park lot. Just thought I'd mention this in case other people have problems with it.
- The lot starts out with about minus 1400 on the power bill!! So even with the two solar panels it's going to be about 10 days before I can have the power on! I don't know if this is deliberate but if I ever find a damn fridge I'm turning Off The Grid off so my sim can finally make a fruit salad lol
- I usually play with LittleMsSam's More Woodworks mod. I have left this installed because, having previously played a No Buy Mode/Dumpster Diving challenge, I know it can be weeks before you can find a usable kitchen counter. And even with a fridge and cooker you can't prepare meals without one. So I feel like this mod is still in the spirit of the challenge. :)
- Is it OK to "swap out" one of the crafting items for a different one? I want to swap the candle maker for a juice fizzer. (I'm not even sure when I can buy a bee box for the wax - does it count as a "skill item"?)
