The Checkered Life of Erik Cantrell

Chapter One: When Something Just Isn't Right

The Cantrell family had all been struggling through their worst Influenza season they could remember. Everybody was down with it. Erik and Brianna visited the clinic and both were found to have allergies. Erik had a mild case of Influenza, but surprisingly, although she exhibited the same symptoms, Brianna was found not to be ill, but to come back should she not feel well. They both filled their prescriptions. Clear Day, for the allergies, and for Erik ConEx for colds & flu. He took his medication diligently. His was not a life of ease. Between school, and constant invitations to photoshoots, (seems the young Rising Star was wanted on the covers of various Sim Teen magazines), he needed to bypass the symptoms that kept him down and to power through. He was holding a very steady A average in school, which pleased his parents. On Saturday morning, Erik crawled, albeit, slowly out of the top bunk. He padded outside, pulling the ties to his robe securely so he could license the four songs he had just finished composing on his violin. Moments later he got word his most recent song, Last Time I Saw You was nominated and that he should attend the next Starlight Accolades, being directed to get there early. About twelve hours later, the Cantrell family went off together to celebrate Pascha as a family. Since the medicine had kicked in, Erik was feeling invigorated, and inspired by the nomination, he decided it was time to record some songs and cut an album. So, off he went to record three sets of five songs each. Once he had fifteen, he could go back to the Taygeda Music Studios and package them into an album. Once that was done, he would go back down and release the album. This he did and returned still in the early morning. The family was already into their Agape celebrations. Erik found, while he could participate in some of the activities, he couldn't hunt for eggs. This was disconcerting. But he brushed it off. Tonight, was the Accolades!

He rested for a bit, realizing he was still ill. His nap was interrupted by an urgent text from somebody name Orion Entertainment, Limited? Erik sat up to take a better look, slipping his wire rimmed glassed back on. Hm, Orion Entertainment, Ltd., is inviting me to hold a concert. Today? Erik ran out of the bedroom brushed his teeth, grabbed a quicker than lightning shower and threw some clothes on. Happily, the new venue downtown, "Music in the Park", was only down the hill and a few blocks over from where he lived. He could ride his bike there. Problem was, it was already after four in the afternoon. The Accolades were at six! Such a dilemma. Erik shrugged. He could do both. The PBP Studios was just another two blocks over from the park. No biggie, he shrugged.

Sadly, it was a bigger deal that he understood. He was barely started when the clock on his phone went off. Five, it's five already? Erik sang three more songs and then bid the audience farewell after thanking them for their kind attention. Grabbing his bike, he peddled as if his clothing were going to change into rags before he got to his destination. Since he'd gotten the notice of the nomination, he'd had more than a few nightmares. He won Best Song, but always something was in his way. The first dream was such that he was too busy hunting for Easter Eggs in the chairs instead of paying attention to what the host was saying. He won. When Erik realized it, he tried to accept the award but the host quickly closed the show. Erik was denied the moment. The next nightmare that plagued him, is he didn't win. The one after that, he won, but the host stood in his way. Apparently, that one last joke he had to tell was far more important than a young Rising Star making a silly acceptance speech. The worst nightmare, however, was that he got on stage, but the audience had all left. He was talking to no one. He wasn't even certain it was being broadcast. Despite all of these nightmares Erik did make a few friends that night. Dirk Dreamer, among them. He also managed to befriend Judith Ward and Octavia Bailey. Thorne was there, but he was being a bit of a thorn, in Erik's mind. Oh, well, can't be loved by everybody.

"Please forgive my less than formal attire, I just raced over here from my first
concert. I am so overwhelmed."
"Thank you for this honor. I love you, All."

Just a few days later, Erik spring-boarded to Global Superstar. Gathering up the mail, he felt obligated to attend the ceremony to be held just after four-thirty that same afternoon. At least his Dad would be home from work.
The family and a few friends gathered behind the PBP Studios. Erik wandered over to the Avenue of the Stars to see just where he was to place his frame. Turned out, he was given this choice. So, seeing an empty space betwixt two of his new friends, he chose that spot. Finally, everybody was assembled.

The ceremony could begin. Erik knelt before the empty space. Something was troubling him, though. Erik could feel something untoward going on behind him, but he kept his focus, refusing to have this moment also become a nightmare. What is going on? Once Erik's tile was in place, he soon learned of the outright treachery perpetrated by his next younger brother. Joey was busy defacing another Celebrity's tile! What the heck is up with you?

Erik didn't get a chance to do more than yell at his brother, which he loathed to do with Paparazzi around. Before he could clean up the mess, or more rightly Joey could clean it up. Dustin Broke was quick with a mop.
"I'm really sorry about this. Kids, you know?"
