The Sims 4 Spacewheel Challenge

Welcome to The Sims 4 Spacewheel Challenge!
This challenge requires the Get to Work, City Living and For Rent expansions.
It recommends, but does not require, the Cottage Living expansion.

[The Challenge]
OH NO! Your poor sim has found themself trapped in a small space-capsule drifting away and lost in space. Can your sim figure out how to turn this hunk of junk into a survivable space station or will they perish, drifting among the stars?

This challenge is a mix between the One-Room Challenge, a Gamewheel, and The Floor is Lava. It is a very deadly challenge that will claim the lives of most of your sims.

Here's the basics:
You lock your sim off the ground in a small room and [D6] seed packets. Outside of buying a telescope, you may only purchase what the Gamewheel says you can. Spin the wheel at every cerebral skillgain [Logic, Handiness, Programming, Rocket Science, etc.], Quake, or Sunday. If any sim ever goes to the exterior of the ship without a spacesuit or passes out from exhaustion while in a spacesuit outside; they die.

[Details on how to play:]
Pick a scenario:
Lost Scientist:Your sim was a scientist serving on a space station, when the station became overrun with hostile aliens. Your Sim fled and barely made it to an escape shuttle alive. The ship got damaged in the exit and your sim is now drifting alone in space.
Or
Abductee: Your sim was minding their own business when they were beamed aboard an alien spacecraft! The aliens wanted to experiment on your sim, but your sim broke free and fled. Hurriedly throwing themself into an unusual escape pod and launching themself away. They are now lost in space.

Build Mode:

  1. On any lot you prefer stack two small rooms of the highest wall height so your build starts on the third floor.
  2. Make a solo "escape shuttle" on the third floor: the room/interior should be between 4-25 tiles(2x2-5x5) but no larger than that. It can be any shape or configuration.
  3. The build should include: On the interior: A "Mission Control" Desk (no chair),  at least 1 of any locker/storage. Anywhere exterior or interior: a "Fuse box", a "Water heater", any mailbox of your choice (I recommend the "Apartment Mailbox") and any waste disposal (I recommend "Chute 'Em Down" trash disposal)
  4. The build should not include any seating, beds, showers, toilets, etc. Nor anything that's helpful for survival; that's part of the gameplay challenge.
  5. You can add any other non-functional decorations you wish to complete the build. including wings or an exterior of the ship for flavor. The exterior can utilize platforms in any amount you wish.
  6. Delete the two small rooms on the first and second floor so your build appears to be floating.
  7. Give the lot the Quakezone lot challenge and, if available, the Simple Living lot challenge.
    Examples:

I have also made two starting shuttles of my own, if you would like to use one of mine.

Create A Sim:

  • Make any sim you'd like! But make just one everyday outfit for them; ignore the rest.
  • Copy their clothing from their everyday into every slot for their other categories (formal, swimwear, etc.) - The idea is that your sim escaped with only the clothes on their back! If you'd like to edit sleepwear or swimming so they look like they are wearing their underwear; feel free, but the idea again is that they have one set of clothes and only that.
    Example:
  • Make a second outfit in the everyday category and make them a spacesuit; specifically a space helmet. If your sim ever goes to the "exterior" of the ship, the locker on-board provides a spacesuit change for outside. Any outfit will do; as long as you recognize it as a "spacesuit".
    Examples:

Live Mode: [Game Start]

  1. Purchase your escape shuttle lot and move your sim in.
  2. Scenario Scientist:Use your sim's phone and give your sim a job as a scientist.
Scenario Abductee: Flip a coin. Tails leave them be. Heads, Your sim is pregnant. In three days time; if you are still alive, you must enter CAS and add an alien infant as your sim's child. [Alternatively] You may impregnate your sim (male or female) with an alien via cheats.  Or for male sims you could use the cheat: "interactions.pushalienabduction_abducted "until he becomes pregnant.
  3. Enter "testingcheats true" then, Hold shift and teleport your sim into their escape shuttle with Teleport Here. They may no longer leave the ship or touch ground for any reason.
  4. Scavenging the locker onboard; your sim finds a handful of seedpacks. Roll a D6 (6-sided dice). Purchase [D6] seed packets with your phone.
  5. Enter the cheat "Money 0"
  6. If there are any doors to the exterior of the ship: Lock them. You can only pass to the exterior if your sim is in a spacesuit. Sans a spacesuit; the exterior is deadly!
  7. If your sim ever goes outside without a spacesuit: Kill them. If your sim ever passes out from exhaustion while outside in a spacesuit: They ran out of air and died. Kill them. (Animals you acquire may survive on the exterior of the ship without spacegear)
  8. Your sim can never access the travel function from their phone. Your sim can only access the Buy options from your phone, bookcases, or garden pots, once they unlocked a satellite onboard. Otherwise; you may use whatever else they can access via their phone and their own inventory to survive.
  9. The challenge begins now! Your goal is to make yourself a self-sufficient space station--start with a telescope to scope the area. Good luck! Don't die! May your legacy begin!

Live Mode: [Gameplay Rules]
[Roleplay Reasonings]

  • Your money is not "money" in this challenge. It is available resources: scraps, scavenge, and other space-debris you can find or obtain. Chance dictates what type of resources you have and what they could be turned into (AKA: The wheel decides what functional items you can purchase)
  • When a Quake happens; your ship is passing through asteroids. Thus, you are close enough to resources to snatch them or likely to have a space-related event happen. Something has happened to your shuttle. Always Spin the Wheel.
  • Outside the spaceship is hostile and deadly atmosphere. You must wear a spacesuit on any exterior part of your ship; or die. Passing out from exhaustion in a spacesuit outside means you ran out of air.
  • Gaining cerebral skills means your sim was engaging in spaceship work. Logic; exploring the planets/stars. Handiness, Programming, or Rocket Science, upgrading the ship. (AKA spin the wheel on every cerebral skillgain)

[The Wheel]
Link:
https://spinthewheel.app/EohXQBEXQC

  • The first time you look through the telescope; spin the wheel once.
  • Everytime there is a quake from the quake zone trait; spin the wheel once.
  • Everytime any crew gains a logic, handiness, rocket science, robotics or programming skill; spin the wheel once.
  • Everytime any crew discovers a star/planet that they can name via telescope; spin the wheel once.
  • Once at the end of each week (Or every Sunday); you may optionally spin the wheel once.
  • If the wheel lands on an item that references a pack you do not own; re-spin.
  • No new wheel-spins are allowed to happen until the last task you were given form the wheel is complete. However, you can track how many spins you're owned and spin the wheel again immediately once you've finished the previous task.
  • If your sim is an occult and the wheel demands they become a different occult; the sim swaps to the new occult.
  • You must complete whatever task the wheel lands on--if you need to cheat in items to make it happen(like the cowplant or science-career items)--make it so. These are items your sim has scavenged from planets, asteroids, or managed to scrap together with salvage onboard.
  • If the wheel asks for an item; it comes out of your own funds [resources]; if not enough funds are available; you must work towards purchasing that item with your funds [resources] until you can spin the wheel again.
  • If the wheel asks for a task you don't have the item for; you can buy it through the Buy menu (aka if it asks you to woohoo; but have no woohoo spot to woohoo you could buy any woohoo item through the Buy Menu with your funds, etc) Whatever you need to complete the goal! Then, you may keep any item you've gained from the wheel afterwards or sell it back for 'scrap'. Your choice.

[Ship Expansion]

  • You may not sell anything on the starting ship for money; you need those objects for space travel, but you can move them around if you need to free up room.
  • The only functional item you can purchase without the wheel is the telescope. (You may also buy newborn cribs if expecting, or a single pet dish per adopted pet.)
  • You may not purchase any functional or useable build items in Buy Mode unless the wheel says you can "Scavenge an Item".
  • You may use build mode to build/expand your spaceship. You can add new rooms (walls & floors), wallpaper, floors, lights, or decoration items; anything as long as they are non-functional & affordable.
  • You may build up or down or out; but never touch the floor. AKA; No first floors allowed.
  • If your Sim ever goes to the "exterior" of the ship, or any non-sealed or non-enclosed room; use the spacesuit outfit--if any of your sims go outside without one, you must kill that sim. Remember there is no air.

[Adding Sims]

  • Babies who are born aboard do not have proper clothing. Put them in a diaper only.
  • Sims who are abducted aboard should get the same treatment as your starter sim originally had: Copy their outfit to all their other slots. They have one pair of clothes on them.

[Sim Max Capacity]
If you hit 8 sims in-game but the wheel demands you add another; there are a few options:
RECOMMENDED: Use a mod so you can have as many sim-slots as you want.
MERCILESS: Someone must die to make room for the new addition
HARD: Eject one person to the surface and remove them from the family to make room for the new addition (With cheats enabled you can shift-click to Remove from Family)
EASY: Make your ship into a Residential Rental. Make a barracks room. Combine the sims you are less interested in playing into one family and move them into the barracks on-board. Note: To win the challenge this room must at minimum provide a sleeping space for every sim who lives in it and provides access publicly or otherwise to other needs like food, bladder, and hygiene.

[Acquiring Items]

  • Most items are gained by the wheel: AKA your chance to scavenge for supplies.
  • You can purchase a newborn crib if expecting, or a single pet dish if adopting a pet.
  • If you can make an item via a workbench you have on-board; you can make it.
  • You cannot purchase anything via phone, clicking seedbeds, bookshelf purchases, etc. Unless you have a satellite.
  • You may drag items left on the lot below into your spaceship with the mouse. (example; If lighting leaves behind a collectible; you can collect it)
  • You can also trade items for alternatives or upgrades. If it seems that you could sensibly repurpose that item into another. You may.

[Upgrades]
You can upgrade any item for a better version of the same type if you have the funds and it serves the same function.
Example: Swap any 3-comfort dining chair for a 5-comfort dining chair. Swap any single bed for another single bed, etc.

[Item Trades]
NOTE: All trades work in vise-versa.

  • You can trade 1 workstation and 6 telescopes for the Observatory. Trade 7 for 1.
  • You can trade any computer for a satellite.
  • You can trade 3 iceboxes for a fridge. Trade 3 for 1. (Or 2 iceboxes for a minifridge. 2 for 1)
  • You can combine 4 small garden plots(/litterboxs) into a single large garden plot if you wish. Trade 4 for 1. Or swap a small garden plot with a litterbox. Trade 1 for 1. You're just moving around dirt.
  • You can trade 2 pet dishes for a programmatic feeder. Trade 2 for 1.
  • You can trade any 2 tablets for a computer.
  • You can trade 4 showers or 3 bathtubs for a Hot tub. Trade 4/or/3 for 1.
  • You can trade any infant crib for a toddler bed. Trade 1 for 1.
  • You can trade 2 toddler beds for a single bed.
  • You can trade 2 single beds for a double bed.
  • You can trade 2 sinks for a toilet. [one for the toilet bowl and one for the tank]
  • you can trade 3 sinks for a shower. Trade 3 for 1
  • You can trade 2 showers for a bathtub. Trade 2 for 1
  • You can trade any newborn crib for a baby mat.
  • You can trade any table for a desk. Trade 1 for 1.
  • You can trade 2 dining chairs for an armchair. Trade 2 for 1.
  • You can trade 1 dining chair and 6 wool for an armchair.
  • You can trade 2 armchairs for a loveseat. Trade 2 for 1.
  • You can trade 3 armchairs for a 3-seat sofa. Trade 3 for 1.
  • You can trade 2 counters for a dresser or vise versa. Trade 2 for 1.
  • You can trade a chemistry lab for a pet medicine table.
  • You can trade two grills for an oven. Trade 2 for 1.

^
This probably isn't everything you could trade, but if you think you could reasonably repurpose one item into another, or upgrade it into another, like swapping chair types etc. you may if they have similar functions.

[Portals]
If you acquire a portal to a secret lot (Sixam, Magic Realm etc.) Your sim can freely travel to it as long as they are in their spacesuit. If they ever change out of their spacesuit while off-ship for any reason or pass out--you must kill that sim. They cannot survive the surface.
If you've acquired the Electroflux Wormhole Generator you may cheat yourself to level 10 of the Science Career to upgrade it IF your sim is at logic level 6 or higher.

[Challenge COMPLETE]
The challenge is won when at least one relative of your starting sim has survived to see a fully functional spacecraft that suits the needs of all your boarded crew and you are able to live in space comfortably!
[~Win conditions~]

  • At least one relative of your starting sim must be alive [Child/Spouse].
  • Provides a bed for every sim onboard the spacecraft. Pets included. Couples can share a double bed.
  • Has a garden or other source of steady food supply that is large enough to easily feed your whole crew.
  • Meets the bladder and hygiene needs of the crew. Pets included. Bushes don't count. Babies and infants require a changing table, etc.
  • A way to gain entertainment via an entertainment item.
  • The telescope has been upgraded to the Observatory.
  • You have a "command deck/space control" room to steer the ship from with the starting command center desk.
  • You have any steady income that is able to pay/provide the spaceship's bills to keep the power on.

Best of luck to all you space-travelers!

  • [Other Notes]
While the wheel sometimes calls for woohoos or babies; you do not have to wait for the wheel to dictate when you make any relationship change to your sims. You may freely marry, breed, or divorce your sims.

Abductions: The wheel sometimes asks for abductions or temporary abductions. To do this: First, note how much money you currently have. Enter testingcheats true. Then, shift-click the eligible walkby townie you see. Choose Add to Family.  Now with control of the sim, Shift click any interior space of your spaceship and choose Teleport Here. You've completed an abduction.
For Temporary Abductions: Immediately Shift-Click the abductee again and choose Remove from Family. Now you are not in control of them any longer and may continue. Once you have completed the task the Wheel called for; Add them to your family again, and Shift-Click the surface to return them to the floor and remove them from your family again. Use the Cheat "Money [amount]" to return your funds back to your original amount. (Example Money 380 would give you 380 simoleons)

    [~Useful Cheats~]
